5 Seek GOP At-Large Nods

ST. MARYS — A slew of candidates have filed petitions seeking seats on St. Marys City Council.

The Republican primary for St. Marys Council-at-large will feature a crowded race. Incumbents Bob Fitzgerald, 1713 Fenway Court, and James Harris, 413 Concord Ave., are seeking re-election. Joining them on the ballot are Russell Bailey, 328 Orchard Drive, Dan Uhlenhake, 606 Farrington Court, and Todd Fleagle, 1001 W. Spring St. Voters in the Republican primary may cast ballots for up to three candidates. The top three vote getters will move on to the November election.

Suspect Pocket Dials 911

SIDNEY — Law enforcement officials in Shelby County got an unlikely assist from a suspect Tuesday night.

Douglas J. Wolaver was arrested shortly after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after Shelby County Sheriff's deputies responded to a burglary in progress at an unoccupied residence in the 500 block of Miami River Road in Sidney.

Wine Case Heading To High Court

ST. MARYS — Ohio's High Court has accepted the appeal of Douglas Wine.

In a ruling late Wednesday morning, the Ohio Supreme Court agreed to hold a hearing in Wine's case. In September, Wine's attorney, Lorin Zaner, filed a motion requesting justices from the Ohio Supreme Court take up his case on appeal from the Third District Court of Appeals in Lima. Early last year, appeals court judges in Lima reduced Wine's conviction of gross sexual imposition, a fourth-degree felony, to a third-degree misdemeanor of sexual imposition.

Trustee Passes Torch

ST. MARYS — A township trustee with more than three decades of service recently announced his retirement — paving the way for a new member to join the board.

The Noble Township Board of Trustees met on Feb. 1 to swear in its newest member, Grant Shaner.

“The trustees came to me and asked if I’d be interested,” Shaner said. “I was appointed, and when the term is up, I’ll have to run.”

Kenneth J. “Kenny” Short, 75

Kenneth J. “Kenny” Short, 75, of 8120 Hoenie Road in Celina, passed away at 12:55 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at his residence in Celina.

He was born on March 18, 1937 in Smithboro, Ky., to the late Jolly “Doc” and Clarinda (Amburgey) Short.

On March 29, 1958, he married Shirley Killian, who survives.

Thomas L. Poppe, 44

Thomas L. Poppe, 44, of 15030 State Route 116 in St. Marys, died on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at a residence in St. Marys.

He was born on June 17, 1968, in St. Marys, to Gary and Sherry (Storer) Poppe.

Setex Breaks Ground

ST. MARYS — Setex broke ground on Monday on what will be a 40,000 square foot expansion to the welding facility to allow growth as the company takes on more seat construction for Honda.

Construction is slated to begin next week, weather permitting. The building is planned to be for a future program, to be opened in May, and won’t be in use until fall, after equipment is moved into the facility, said Setex representative Scott Rosenbeck.

Doris (Muhlenkamp) Moeller, 87

Doris (Muhlenkamp) Moeller, 87, of Irmschire Blvd. in Celina, passed away at 2:12 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

She was born on Dec. 1, 1925, in Trinity, Ind., to the late Henry and Frances (Hess) Muhlenkamp.

On Jan. 11, 1947, she married Richard Moeller, who died on May 15, 2008.

Ruth L. Buckloh, 100

February 5, 2013

Ruth L. Buckloh, 100, of 5160 Erastus Durbin Road in Coldwater, passed away at 5:03 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at the Gardens at Celina.

She was born on Aug. 19, 1912, in Mercer County, to the late Thomas George and Edna (Thomas) Fireoved.

On Feb. 15, 1941, she married Harold W. Buckloh, who died on March 26, 1993.

Ecstasy, Gun Seized In Stop

CELINA — Troopers from the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol seized more than $25,000 in drugs and a loaded handgun during a traffic stop in Mercer County on Friday.

Troopers stopped a 2002 Chevy Suburban, with Indiana registration, for an alleged speed violation, on eastbound U.S. 33, near milepost 15, at 9:20 p.m. Friday. Troopers detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed several plastic bags allegedly containing 1,502 ecstasy pills, worth nearly $26,000, and a loaded 9 mm Smith and Wesson handgun.
