ST. HENRY — St. Henry’s players looked around at each other with perplexed looks on their faces as the home stretch of the fourth quarter hit and the New Bremen Cardinals weren’t backing down.
New Bremen had the state’s top-ranked team in Division IV frazzled in its own gym.
Carson Manger and Luke Schwieterman each had 20 points and the Cardinals put on a shooting clinic by hitting their final 12 fourth-quarter free throws in a 60-53 win over the No. 1-ranked Redskins on Friday night.
WAPAKONETA — Heading into the half-time break, St. Marys varsity coach Dan Hegemier watched his team play its heart out against the Wapakoneta Redskins and it showed on the scoreboard and on the stat sheets.
The Roughriders led 24-22 at the break and were shooting 9-of-22 from the field, 4-of-10 from beyond the arc and only had four turnovers. While the Redskins held a slim 11-9 edge on the boards, St. Marys scored 10 points in the paint.
