ST. MARYS — Fire crews spent more than two hours battling a fire at the intersection of Columbia and Vine streets Tuesday night.
At 5:50 p.m., the St. Marys Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a garage fire at 626 Columbia St. When crews arrived, they found a fully engulfed fire inside the detached garage.
Lawrence A. “Dick” Luebke, 87, of Minster, died at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, after a week at Heritage Manor Nursing Center in Minster.
He was born on Jan. 18, 1925, in Maria Stein, to the late Fred and Helen (Walterbusch) Luebke.
He married Rosalee E. Schemmel on Aug. 10, 1946, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on Aug. 23, 2007.
Charlyine E. Kantner, 88, of Wapakoneta, died at 5:26 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at her residence, surrounded by her family.
She was born in New Knoxville to Harold J. and Louetta (Wiethoff) Kuck, who preceded her in death.
On Feb. 2, 1944, she married Luther R. Kantner, and he passed away on Jan. 25, 2006.
She is survived by a son, Dean (Betty) Kantner; a daughter, Diane (Fred) Schlosser, both of Wapakoneta; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother; a sister.
Iris D. Sell, 91, of 1017 Willow St. in Celina, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Gardens at Celina.
She was born on Aug. 30, 1921, in Coldwater, to the late William J. and Flora (Snider) Baer.
Iris is survived by her daughter, Sue Rowley of Oakland, Calif.; a sister-in-law; her nieces and nephews; a close friend.
Iris was preceded in death by her husbands Charles Rowley and Jerry Sell; a brother and a sister-in-law; a sister and a brother-in-law.
Donald E. Widney, 73, of Bryan, passed away at 1:50 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, in Parkview Regional Center, Fort Wayne, Ind., after a long illness.
Don graduated from Sidney High School and served in the U.S. Navy on the naval carrier USS Shangri-La. He was vice president at Piqua Automotive in Piqua, for 10 years before attending Northwest State College and earning his LPN license.
Oran Barber, 99, a resident of Greenfield, Ind., died at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Pleasant View Lodge in McCordsville, Ind.
He was born on Aug. 1, 1913, in Auglaize County, to Walter and Minnie Miller Barber.
Oran and Magdalene “Shorty” Skinner were married on Dec. 21, 1932, and on Nov. 4, 2001, she preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his parents ; three siblings, Willis Barber, Luella Trempert and Marian Nelson.
