BOTKINS — At the end of the third quarter it looked like the New Knoxville Rangers basketball team was going to cruise to an easy victory against the Botkins Trojans, but it turned out to be anything but an easy game as the Rangers had to hold on and hit free throws down the stretch for a 49-42 victory at Botkins.
ST. MARYS — The New Bremen Cardinals have reached the halfway point of the season a team to be reckoned with.
The Cardinals shook off a slow start to win their fourth straight game and move to 8-2 on the season with a 50-40 win at St. Marys to wrap up a double weekend of road wins.
CELINA — Local residents got the chance to get some health tips and screenings through a health fair sponsored by a local hospital.
Janice E. Schroer, 74, of New Bremen, died at 2:55 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Elmwood of New Bremen.
She was born on March 29, 1938, in New Bremen.
She was the daughter of Leo and Luella (Blumhorst) Topp, who preceded her in death.
On Sept. 7, 1957, she married Lloyd W. Schroer, who survives east of New Bremen.
Nancy J. Niemeyer, 76, of New Knoxville, died at 10:35 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community.
She was born on Jan. 25, 1936, in Lima, the only child of Adiel “Art” and Lenora (Sunderman) Wierwille.
She married James Niemeyer on June 19, 1954, and he survives at the residence.
Edith V. “Edie” Jeanneret, 90, of Wapakoneta, died at 10:14 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, in the Lima Memorial Hospital emergency room.
She was born on Dec. 11, 1922, in Elida, to Cecil and Mathilda Miller Keeling.
She married Rene Jeanneret Sr. on March 11, 1943, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1977.
Mrs. Jeanneret had been a homemaker and a bus driver for the Wapakoneta School District. She attended Rousculp Church of Christ and was a member of the Wapakoneta Eagles. She was an avid bowler, mainly at Astro Lanes.
Clarence B. Tuente, 84, of 7834 Overman Road in Maria Stein, died on Jan. 4, 2013, at his home.
He was born on March 30, 1928, in Maria Stein to the late Henry and Agatha (Riethman) Tuente.
He married Dorothy K. Kuess on Sept. 2, 1950, in St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster, and she preceded him in death on May 20, 1995.
