ST. MARYS — The latest edition of a local weight-loss challenge kicked off Tuesday night.
The Grand Health Challenge began with the orientation meeting at St. Marys Memorial High School. Deb Zwez, publisher of the Wapakoneta Daily News, spoke first and introduced the rules of the challenge.
ST. MARYS — The wells at the center of a crude oil leak east of St. Marys have been shut down.
Auglaize County EMA Director Troy Anderson told The Evening Leader the order has been given to shut down the wells until officials can investigate what caused a crude oil leak in the area of Ohio 29 and Plattner Pike Friday night. Clean-up crews have been busy cleaning crude oil from the site since the weekend. Some of the crude oil reached a nearby creek before crews contained the leak.
Mireille L. Stoker, 92, of 935 W. High Street in St. Marys, died on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, in Naperville, Ill.
She was born on Dec. 5, 1920, in Coincy, France, to Lucien and Yvonne (Cheutin) Renoit.
On Oct. 7, 1946, at the Episcopal Church in Lima, she married Milton K. Stoker, who died in 1982.
Survivors include nieces, Deborah J. Anderson and Deborah Johnson; nephew Douglas Anderson; grand-nephews Jordan, Erik, Wesley, Carl and Derek; grand-niece Christina; numerous friends and a large extended family in France.
Bertha J. (Baltes) Siegrist, 89, of 3704 State Route 127 in Celina, passed away at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at her residence.
She was born on March 28, 1923, in Versailles, to the late Leroy and Ella (Frantz) Baltes.
On July 5, 1944, she married Cletus J. Siegrist, who passed away on Nov. 12, 1987.
Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, David C. Siegrist of Celina, John R. and Barbara Siegrist of St. Marys, Helen and Clark Rasneor of St. Marys; four grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law; a sister and brother-in-law
Gerald L. Unroe, 74, of 5474 Behm Road in Celina, passed away at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born on Dec. 30, 1938, in Dayton to the late Virgil and Hermina W. (Plieman) Unroe.
On Oct. 27, 1989, he married Jacqueline Burden, who lives in Celina.
Pastor Vernon W. Clausing, 80, passed away on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013. Vernon was a former UCC pastor who is survived by his sons Jon (Han Soon) and Joel (Nadine); and grandchildren Madison, Lauren, Cole, Tenzin, Ashley, Sadie, and Meghan. He is further survived by his sister Ruth (Howard) Dickman; brother Lee (Sandra) Clausing; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
