LIMA – Two 17-year-old females are facing felony drug charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized 155 Ecstasy pills, worth nearly $5,000 during a traffic stop in Allen County.
Troopers stopped a 1993 Mercury Grand Marquis, with Ohio registration, for a turn signal violation, on Eureka Street, near McPherson Avenue in the city of Lima at 11:08 p.m. Monday. Criminal indicators were observed and an Allen County Sheriff’s Office drug-sniffing K-9 alerted to the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed the Ecstasy pills.
NEW KNOXVILLE — State mandates to address teacher evaluations and to change standardized testing requirements are inflating the staff budgets of districts already surviving budget cuts.
New Knoxville Superintendent Kim Waterman said she doesn’t expect a larger budget for 2013, despite the school spending more than its projected revenue. The school has looked at bus routes, staff and other costs for areas to cut, but staff hours are increasing because teachers need continued training to keep up with state mandates.
ST. MARYS — Strengthening the city’s General Fund, being proactive on the economic development front and maintaining services for the residents of St. Marys are among the goals St. Marys Mayor Pat McGowan unveiled to councilors during Monday night’s St. Marys City Council meeting.
McGowan gave his annual report to councilors, an action required each year under the Ohio Revised Code. In his report, McGowan touched upon some highlights of 2012 as well as his major goals for 2013.
Willard “Will” B. Evers, 62, of Maria Stein, died on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at his home. He was born on Aug. 22, 1950, in Celina, to the late Gregor and Stella (Pleiman) Evers.
He married Ellen Weitzel on Oct. 12, 1974, in Sharpsburg. She survives in Maria Stein.
