Omar G. “Jeep” Patton, 69, of 674 E. Third St. Minster, died at 11 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.

He was born on Aug. 29, 1943, in Sidney, to the Waldo and Thelmo (Fogt) Patton, they preceded him in death. 

Rose Mary Bulcher, 90

Rose Mary Bulcher, 90, of Russia, died at 4:20 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Versailles Health Care Center. 

She was born on June 28, 1922, to the late Clemens and Agnes (Drees) Broerman. 

She married Rhomane Bulcher on June 28, 1949 in St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Osgood.  He preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 2006.

Judy Mescher, 71

January 12, 2013

Judy Mescher, 71, of Maria Stein, died on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. 

She was born on Oct. 19, 1941, in St. Sebastian, to the late Clem & Marie (Sutter) Froning. 

She married Urban Mescher on Feb. 16, 1963, in St. Sebastian Church and he survives in Maria Stein.

Crews Cleaning Leak

ST. MARYS — Clean-up crews are in the process of determining the cause — and exact location — of a crude oil leak east of St. Marys.

Auglaize County EMA Director Troy Anderson received a phone call Friday night regarding a strong odor. When he arrived on the scene — near the area of Plattner Pike and Ohio 29 — he said he knew the source of the odor.

Boys Basketball: Bath overcomes 3-pt. shooting woes to power past St. Marys

ST. MARYS — An NBA All-Star Weekend 3-point shooting contest it was not, but the Bath boys basketball team left St. Marys Memorial High School still tied for the Western Buckeye League lead.

The 19-point win was anything but routine, though. Bizarre is a more fitting description.

The Wildcats sewed up a 56-37 win over the Roughriders  early in the second half with another showcase of  energy on defense and on the offensive glass that makes Bath a league title contender this winter.

Boys Basketball Friday Round-Up: New Knoxville wins in OT over Marion Local

Area boys basketball teams were in action on Friday night:

NEW KNOXVILLE 56, MARION LOCAL 49, OT

MARIA STEIN — The New Knoxville boys basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter and controlled the overtime to earn a 56-49 win over Marion Local on Friday night at The Hangar.

The Rangers’  first Midwest Athletic Conference win of the season came with a big night from beyond the 3-point arc. The Rangers hit 11 three-pointers and went 11-of-22 from long distance — including 7-of-11 in the second half.
