January 9th
The St. Marys at Greenville girls basketball game scheduled for Tuesday night has been rescheduled for Monday, Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. That game will include a junior varsity contest tentatively.
Jan. 9: St. Marys Living Center will host “Wheelchair Wonder Richard” at 2 p.m. today in the dining room.
The Moulton Township Board of Zoning Appeals will hold an organizational meeting at 7 p.m. today at the Township Hall
The Grand Health Challenge will host its kick-off meeting at 7 p.m. today at Memorial High School.
The St. Marys City Council is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. today.
The Minster Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m. today.
St. Marys baseball players who sign up for Minor, Major and Pony Leagues before Jan. 31 will be given the opportunity to attend a two-day baseball clinic run by former Major League pitcher and coach Galen Cisco. Those that sign up will be part of the clinic and will also receive a Galen Cisco baseball clinic t-shirt. For any questions, call 419-305-6552.
CELINA — Over the past approximately 60 years, the absent father rate has jumped from 7 percent to 33 percent, according to Mercer Dads Director Ted Goodwin.
“As the absent father rate has climbed, what has happened in our society?” Goodwin said. “Things have gotten worse progressively in society. Dad has that much of an impact.”
Goodwin said the statistics about children with an absent father are shocking.
CELINA — More than 200 residents visited the YMCA in Celina on Saturday to check up on their health and learn some valuable lessons.
Joint Township District Memorial Hospital held its annual winter family health fair, which featured a slew of booths that ranged from wound care tips to testing balance. Community Outreach Coordinator Anne Larger said the event always draws a crowd.
“It’s going very well,” Larger told The Evening Leader. “We’re very excited.”

ST. MARYS — St. Marys head coach Dan Hegemier threw out his hands and wondered when his team would catch a break.
“I’ve been doing this a long time, but I’ve never seen a team with such bad karma,” Hegemier said.
The Roughriders stormed back from a double-digit deficit but couldn’t quite come all the way back in Saturday night’s 50-46 loss to the Spencerville Bearcats.
Minster 31, Celina 27
CELINA — No one would’ve blinked if the shot went down in this rollercoaster of a basketball game.
Minster and Celina’s low-scoring, back-and-forth affair looked like it might be in for another drastic turn when Hillary Heiby got what appeared to be a wide-open look at a potential go-ahead three-pointer in the game’s final 25 seconds.

ELIDA — The St. Marys boys basketball team was charged with the task of stopping a rested and ready Elida Bulldogs eight days after they suffered their first loss of the season against Toledo Central Catholic and experienced the first roadbump in its expected charmed run through the WBL and the regular season.
NEW BREMEN — Minster got the better of its rival New Bremen 46-43 in a Midwest Athletic Conference back-and-forth showdown on Friday night by scoring eight of the game’s final 10 points to rally.
