DELPHOS — A 9-2 run in the final three minutes of the third quarter was what put the Delphos St. John’s Bluejays over the top as they defeated the New Bremen Cardinals Lady basketball team 38-30 Thursday evening in a MAC contest played at Delphos.
“We stayed with them,” Cardinals head coach Randy Eckert said. “We just had a few mental mistakes that cost us a few points. Our shot selection wasn’t the greatest at the end, but we have to shoot more and try to score.”
MINSTER — Minster dominated the second quarter in a 62-44 victory over Versailles in a Midwest Athletic Conference match-up on Thursday night.
“I think it was a team effort,” said Minster head coach Nann Stechschulte. “We tried to take away their strengths.”
Tara Clune led the Wildcats, who had 10 different players score, with 18 points.
Dorothy Mae Zeller, 79, of Celina, died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at her residence.
She was born on Sept. 26, 1932, in Greenville, to Alf and Florence (McSherry) Burke, and they preceded her in death.
On Nov. 11, 1950, she married Robert E. Zeller, and he survives at the residence.
She is also survived by a son, Don R. (Sandy) Zeller of Celina; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ron L. Zeller; a brother.
Genevieve “Peg” Thees Heppeard, 91, of Celina, died on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
She was born on Oct. 4, 1920, in Toledo, to Roy and Ruth E. “Petie” (Tester) Saunders, and they preceded her in death.
On April 7, 1942, she married Frederick B. Thees, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 1967. On Oct. 11, 1998, she married Chester S. Heppeard, and he preceded her in death on March 2, 2000.
William Novin, 81, of Celina, died on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at his residence.
He was born on June 5, 1930. in Zeigler, Ill., to Michael and Mary (Gulish) Novin, and they preceded him in death.
On Feb. 19, 1952, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Oregon, he married Patricia Daney, and she survives.
ST. MARYS — The new lake restoration manager for Grand Lake St. Marys says continuing the work started by the Grand Lake St. Marys Restoration Commission will be his top priority.
Earlier this week, Milt Miller was named to the post to serve as the main face for the restoration efforts at Grand Lake St. Marys. Miller, who has been instrumental in fundraising efforts during the past two years, said he plans to continue the work started by the restoration group.

Stacy Timmerman, Capital
COLUMBUS — Stacy Timmerman, a Capital junior and New Bremen grad, scored 15 points and had five rebounds and an assist in the Crusaders’ 66-57 loss to Mount Union on Saturday. Capital slipped to 13-6, 8-4 in the OAC. Timmerman averages 9.6 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per game.
