VERSAILLES — Versailles rolled past Minster 69-50 in a Midwest Athletic Conference contest on Friday night.
Versailles came out ready right from the start as the Tigers opened the game on an 8-0 run, courtesy of three-pointers by Mitchell Campbell and Chad Winner, along with a basket by freshman Kyle Ahrens.
Minster’s Ryan Hoying hit a three-pointer to end the Tiger run, but Versailles led 8-3 with 4:30 remaining in the first quarter.
ST. MARYS — After a flurry of donations from residents, employees and community members, Otterbein St. Marys has reached its $1.6 million fundraising goal for its Life Enrichment Center.
Charitable Gift Planner Hodge Drake said the committee, comprised of residents, employees, board members and community members, has been working since mid 2009 to raise funds for the new facility.
“Leader Look Back,” is a collection of stories and headlines from 75, 50 and 25 years ago this week. This week’s edition examines stories from Jan. 31 to Feb. 5, 1937, 1962 and 1987.
75 years ago: Residents of St. Marys and the surrounding area raised $1,044.79 for the Red Cross to go toward flood relief in southern Ohio. Appreciation was sent by flood victims to St. Marys for the donation of water.
ST. MARYS — Local students received a look into the “real world” as part of an annual event at their school.
Eighth-grade students at St. Marys Middle School participated in the OSU Extension’s “Real Money Real World” activity in their gymnasium on Friday.
“We are in all of the schools in Auglaize County except one,” county director and 4-H educator Beth Miller said, noting the presentation is also done at other schools.
Cecelia Elizabeth Whitmer, 93, of 913 Willow St., Celina, passed away at 8:25 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater.
She was born on Oct. 28, 1918, in Denver, Colo., to the late Sven and Esther (Allspach) Vegelin. On July 24, 1943, she married Lewis Whitmer, who died July 29, 2006.
She is survived by two brothers; five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Calvert officiating. Burial will follow in North Grove Cemetery in Celina.

ST. MARYS — A St. Marys woman was arrested Thursday night on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
