Donna Jacobs, 68, of St. Marys, died on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at Kindred Hospital in Lima.
Arrangements are being completed with the Miller – Long & Folk Funeral Home, 314 W. High St., in St. Marys.
Carolyn P. Stirn, 78, of rural Lima, died at 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
She was born on July 10, 1933, in Wyandot County, to Dale E. and Beggs Parsell, and they preceded her in death. Her stepmother, Dorothy Castainien, also preceded her in death.
On Aug. 28, 1955, she married the Rev. Eldon D. Stirn, and he survives her.
Howard R. Harner, 90, of Celina, died on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at the Gardens at Celina.
He was born on May 16, 1921, in Mercer County, to Clem and Laura (Donovan) Harner, and they preceded him in death.
On Dec. 16, 1949, he married Audrey Davis, and she survives.
He is also survived by Duane (Sue) Harner of Celina; a daughter, Wanda Harner of Florida; a brother-in-law; a sister-in-law; one grandchild; two stepgrandchildren; two great-stepgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
ST. MARYS — A group of residents in a two-county area are getting their creative juices flowing and creating items to help others.
St. Marys resident Samantha DuVernay recently put together Head Huggers of Auglaize and Mercer Counties to provide hats for those who have lost their hair.
“Whatever they create has to be handmade,” DuVernay said.
“It can be crochet, knit — we will sew mostly hats for people who have lost their hair due to illnesses.”
CELINA — During the meeting of a local lake group this weekend, members of the organization heard from the top official with a state agency.
Terry Cosby, the head of the Ohio National Resource Conservation Service, spoke at the Lake Improvement Association meeting on Saturday, noting the projects the NRCS has contributed to in the area over the past few years.

Division II Sectional at Spencerville
The St. Marys girls basketball team will play Celina on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 6:15 p.m. at Spencerville High School to open the Division II sectional tournament.
The winner of that game faces second-seeded Shawnee on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 6:15 p.m. at Spencerville.
The drawing for area girls basketball tournament games was held on Sunday.
Celina beat the Roughriders 60-26 on Jan. 19 in their Western Buckeye League match-up.

NEW KNOXVILLE — “You want me to guard him?”
A Lima Temple Christian reserve asked the question as he drifted towards the scorer’s table to check in, emphasizing the final word as if he was being asked to do long division in front of a live studio audience.
No need to even explain who him meant, either.
NEW KNOXVILLE 45, SIDNEY LEHMAN CATHOLIC 38
SIDNEY — The New Knoxville girls basketball team outscored Sidney Lehman Catholic in the second and third quarters in a 45-38 win over the Cavaliers on Saturday afternoon.
New Knoxville freshman Meg Reineke scored a season-high 15 points. She knocked down three 3-pointers and six free throws. Ranger sophomore forward Paige Lehman added 12 points and Tiana Heidt scored nine points.

COLDWATER — New Knoxville spotted Coldwater a big lead in the first quarter and fell short in a second-half comeback attempt in a 47-43 loss to the Cavaliers on Friday night at The Palace.
“Coldwater came ready to play and for whatever reason tonight we didn’t,” New Knoxville head coach Kort Fledderjohann said.
