ADA — Ohio Northern senior center and New Bremen graduate Scott Schnelle scored his 1,000th point for the Polar Bears on Wednesday night in ONU’s 64-55 win over Heidelberg.
Schnelle’s free throw with 14:21 left in the second half put him at the scoring plateau.
Schnelle scored 18 points on 14-of-15 shooting from the floor to go along with nine rebounds three assists and a block.
ST. MARYS —Before the St. Marys Board of Education meeting Wednesday night, community members heard from a representative from the Ohio Department of Education.
Mary Lou Holly, who works in the Office of Finance and Program Services, is the Ohio Department of Education Regional Coordinator for District 2. Holly reviewed a presentation she created on a staffing analysis of the St. Marys City Schools.
ST. MARYS — As his sixth week in office draws to an end, St. Marys Mayor Pat McGowan briefed members of the St. Marys Rotary Club on his goals and aspirations for the city.
McGowan talked about the city’s strengths and weaknesses as well as some looming financial issues. One of the city’s biggest assets, he noted, is its financial footing.
“The city is blessed with its finances,” McGowan said. “Overall we are in good shape.”
Kathy Lynn (Holsinger) Ratcliff, 49, of Findlay passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center with her husband and family by her side.
Kathy was born on Aug. 15, 1962, to George and Geri (Adams) Holsinger. Kathy worked as a laborer and was most recently employed with PBE Enterprises.
Mary Ann Seger, 85, of 255 N. Garfield St., Minster, died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born on May 16, 1926, in Shelby County, to John and Mary C. (Meyer) Dircksen, and they preceeded her in death.
Norma Jean Buck, 87, of 1130 Jefferson Ave., Celina, died at 11:40 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater.
She was born on Sept. 23, 1924, in Mercer County, to John and Ruth (Cordier) Kuhn, and they preceded her in death.
On April 4, 1953, she married Carl Buck, and he survives her in Celina.
She is also survived by a daughter, Lynn Kay (Rick) Krogman of Celina; two grandchildren; two brothers; two sisters; a sister-in-law.
She was preceded in death by three brothers; a sister; two brothers-in-law.
Donald L. Belton, 68, 00650 Southland Road, New Bremen, died at 12:50 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born on Jan. 23, 1944, in Barberton, to Jess and Margaret (Nieter) Belton.
On July 25, 1964, he married Sarah Shaffer, and she survives.
He is also survived by a daughter, Sandra (Tim) Meckstroth of St. Marys; a son, John Belton of St. Marys; five grandchildren, Justin, Nathan and Aaron Belton and Colin and Chad Meckstroth.

NEW KNOXVILLE — A hardworking man, who gave his all no matter what he did will be remembered for that, those who knew Larry Fledderjohann and worked alongside him for years say.
“I met Larry as a board member and he became a very good friend,” Auglaize County Elections Board Chair Fran Engle said of Fledderjohann, who at age 68 died Monday evening at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He had been battling several types of cancer, including spine and brain cancer, for the past nine months.
Larry Fledderjohann, 68, of 12093 Plattner Pike, St. Marys, died at 9:46 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born on Oct. 5, 1943, in Lima, the son of Vernon and Gladys (Stroh) Fledderjohann, and his mother preceded him in death on Jan. 15. He father preceded him in death as well.
On June 27, 1964, he married Paula Bubp, and she survives at the residence.
