ST. MARYS — The New Knoxville girls basketball team has no problem waiting as long as it takes for an opposing defense to break down.
At times on Thursday night, it took a Job-like patience to get the job done.
Undersized Ada pestered and pushed the bigger, stronger New Knoxville girls basketball team for more than three quarters on Thursday night, threatening to set up what has been unthinkable recently — a Division IV district title game in western Ohio without a Midwest Athletic Conference team.
CELINA — A annual event will be coming around once again this weekend as area residents have the opportunity to plunge for a cause.
The Special Olympics of Ohio is holding its fifth-annual Grand Lake St. Marys Polar Plunge this Saturday at the Celina Moose.
“This is our eighth one this year,” Special Olympics of Ohio Marketing and Development Director Paige Ludwig said. “There are nine throughout the state.”
To participate in the plunge, participants can either register ahead of time or register the day of the event.
CELINA — The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the Grube double homicide and the Fair home invasion/robbery. Since Monday, the sheriff's office has received more than 60 new tips, mostly involving the Fair home invasion/robbery.
A witness has come forward and worked with detectives and BCI&I agents to develop a composite drawing of one of the suspects. The suspect's hair is described as reddish blonde and the suspect is stocky and shorter than 5-feet-7. The witness believes that he is in approximately 30-years-old.

25 Years Ago This Week – 1987
This week in 1987, Mike Kiehl’s St. Marys Roughriders concluded their regular season with a 68-57 victory over the Parkway Panthers. The Roughriders got down to business immediately after the opening tip and thumped the Panthers 20-8 in the opening eight minutes. Things played out a little more even in the second quarter, but St. Marys still managed to break for intermission in front, 35-22.
COLDWATER — It was a classic tournament basketball game at Coldwater Wednesday evening that had a little bit of everything and in the end it was a layup by Elliott Westerbeck of New Bremen that gave the Cardinals a 58-56 double overtime victory over the Marion Local Flyers in the Division IV sectional semifinal game.
The Cardinals (13-8) will play St. Henry in the sectional final on Friday in the second game. St. Henry defeated Waynesfield-Goshen 67-31. Marion Local ends their season at 11-10.
ST. MARYS — State officials released an updated fish consumption advisory list for 2012.
In a news release, the Ohio EPA announced it relaxed consumption advisories at four Ohio waterways and imposed more strict advisories at 10 bodies of water.
ST. MARYS — A local board of education heard a presentation on what types of levies could be available to it during a special meeting held Wednesday evening at the District Service Center.
Rebecca Princehorn, with Bricker and Eckler Attorneys at Law, met with members of the St. Marys Board of Education to discuss levy options for the district.
Phyllis Dayle Combs, 86, died at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at Otterbein - St. Marys.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel, with Elder Robert Deitsch and Elder David K. Scott officiating.

Rodney A. Whetstone, 48, of Wapakoneta, died on Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at his brother’s home in Okeana.
He was born on Jan. 7, 1964, in Lima, to Robert and Connie (Link) Whetstone, and they preceded him in death.
He is survived by a daughter and fiancé, Ginny Rohrer and Thomas Anderson of Wapakoneta; a stepson, Jaye Helton of Lima; a granddaughter; two brothers.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during the Libyan War.
