Helen Bolinger Spoon, 84, of Van Wert, died at 1:59 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert.
She was born on July 25, 1928, in Van Wert County to parents Frank Bolinger and Mabel (Chase), who preceded her in death.
On Dec. 27, 1946, she married Jerry F. Spoon at First United Methodist Church in Van Wert.
Elmer N. Hemmelgarn, 89, of Russia, formerly of St. Rose, died at 9:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Versailles Health Care.
He was born on Feb. 23, 1923, in St. Sebastian to the late Theodore and Marie (Timmerman) Hemmelgarn.
He married Regina Rose on Aug. 11, 1948, in St. Henry, who survives in Russia.

MINSTER 55, SPENCERVILLE 54
MINSTER — Minster put the ball in the hands of a cool and collected senior in the closing seconds of the Wildcats’ 55-54 win over Spencerville on Saturday night.
Devon Poeppelman delivered with a post-up, pirouette and powerful finish.
Poeppelman posted up his defender, received the ball from freshman point guard Jacob Stechschulte at the right elbow, drove into the paint and spun leftward towards the basket for the game winner with 3.7 seconds.
ST. MARYS — Fort Recovery held the St. Marys boys basketball team without a point in the second quarter to build a big lead and coast to a 58-43 season-opening win on Murotech Court at the Horseshoe on Friday night.
St. Marys recovered with a strong second half that included 37 points put on the scoreboard, but by then Fort Recovery had a lead that at times reached 20 points.
ST. MARYS — Water customers of the city of St. Marys should expect to pay more for the service as part of a proposed 34 percent rate increase during the next two years.
NEW KNOXVILLE — At the front of the sanctuary in First Church in New Knoxville stands a massive, glittering Christmas tree, bedecked with yellow lights and dozens of intricately carved wooden ornaments hanging from red strings. Each of these ornaments — among them a turtle dove carrying an olive branch, a Christmas tree, a candle and bells tied together with a ribbon — was handcrafted by 16-year-old Weston Hirschfeld.
Richard S. Loffer, 82, of 801 W. North St., St. Marys, died at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Jan. 7, 1930, in Ada, the son of Lowell and Mary (Hubbell) Loffer.
He married Barbara Van Cleve on May 19, 1951, and she preceded him in death on April 1, 2010.
Rickey W. Timbs, 57, of 7293 State Route 219, Celina, died suddenly at 3:20 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, in the emergency department of Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater, after suffering an apparent heart attack.
He was born on July 26, 1955, in Marion, Ind., the son of William Windred and Lillian (Muncey) Timbs.
Merlin W. Blumhorst, 99, of New Bremen, died at 11:35 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at the St. Marys Living Center in St. Marys.
He was born on Oct. 15, 1913, near Kettlersville.
He was the son of William and Bertha (May) Blumhorst.
