NEW KNOXVILLE — With good pressure and timely runs the New Knoxville Rangers opened the MAC play with a convincing 44-37 victory over the Minster Wildcats Thursday evening at New Knoxville.

As expected in a game between these two teams, defense was the key.
50 Years Ago This Week – 1962
ST. MARYS — An Ohio senator urged President Barack Obama to work more closely and cooperatively with both parties to avert allowing the nation to go over looming fiscal cliff.
On Wednesday, U.S. Sen. Rob Portman drafted a letter to Obama that was signed by several dozen other Republican senators as a way to jump start talks in order to reach a deal before the end of the year to avoid the fiscal cliff. If a deal is not struck by the end of the year, automatic spending cuts and tax increases will be triggered in 2013.
Dixie A. Wierwille, 73, of New Bremen died at 7 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at her residence, ending a three-year courageous struggle with cancer.
She was born on March 4, 1939, in Franklin to Richard and Sarah (Beam) Arbaugh, who preceded her in death.
She married the love of her life, Robert D. Wierwille on Dec. 28, 1979, and he survives in New Bremen.
Tracy Loyer Greve, 49, formerly of Botkins and Waynesfield, died at 6 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at the Pavillion of Sidney, following a long battle with cancer.
She was born on Sept. 26, 1963, in St. Marys, the daughter of Edward and L. Jean (Ketcham) Loyer.
Sally E. VanHorn, 79, of Wapakoneta, died at 2:51 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at Wapakoneta Manor. Arrangements are incomplete at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Cyril R. “Cy” Broering, 84, of 2204 St. Johns Road in Maria Stein died at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at the Gardens of St. Henry.
He was born on Sept. 6, 1928, in Cassellav to Anthony and Josephine (Holdheide) Broering, who preceded him in death.
He married Mildred “Millie” Guggenbiller on May 7, 1952, in Sharpsburg. She survives in Maria Stein.

ST. MARYS — St. Marys Community Public Library’s policy board met Wednesday to tackle the growing problem of thousands of dollars in deliberate theft of library materials for the purpose of Internet resale.
ST. MARYS — The cafeteria at St. Marys Intermediate School has been abuzz with activity as part of a recent club that could yield future engineers and architects.
Approximately 80 students have signed up to take part in the Lego Builders Academy. The club, which held its first meeting last week, gives students a chance to build items with Legos while learning at the same time.
December 5th
MINSTER — The 167 freshmen from New Bremen, Minster and New Knoxville schools will have a leg up come high school graduation time.
The students attended the first-ever Exploration Academy, a collaborative program put together by the Auglaize County Chamber of Commerce, the New Bremen, Minster and New Knoxville high schools, and different business professionals from all three villages. The event was held at the YMCA on Ohio 66 between New Bremen and Minster.
