Carol M. Stuber, 80, of 206 W. German St. in New Knoxville, and formerly of Lima, died at 5:42 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, in the emergency department of Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
She was born on Nov. 27, 1932, in Bellefontaine, to parents James and Eunice (Weatherby) Downing, who preceded her in death.
She married Arthur P. Stuber on Nov. 19, 1949, and he preceded her in death on March 24, 1995.

ST. HENRY — The ball barely touched the floor when St. Henry got its half-court offense clicking in the third quarter of its 71-48 win over St. Marys on Friday night.
The Redskins zipped the ball around and found a steady diet of point-blank baskets to feed a big third quarter.
“St. Henry passes the ball very, very well,” St. Marys head coach Dan Hegemier said. “It allows their team to get nice, easy looks.”

ST. MARYS — The newest members of the St. Marys business community officially opened its doors on Friday.
Superior Federal Credit Union opened its newest branch, located at 462 Fortman Drive in St. Marys, with a ribbon cutting ceremony that brought to close an almost six-month project. Superior Federal Credit Union CEO Phil Buell said the St. Marys location was the perfect addition to the company’s portfolio.
ST. MARYS — For senior Roughrider Ariel Dodson, life is music.
The 17-year-old begrudgingly picked up the bass guitar three years ago June, and after much hard work and instruction, fell in love with it. Her YouTube channel, named excetera66, features covers of the bass playing in songs she likes, as well as videos that teach viewers how to play the bass in certain songs. The content is “a lot of rock, some metal stuff. It depends. Sometimes I’ll play Deftones or Lamb of God,” Dodson said.
Janet Marion Pond, 81, of Rockford, died on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at Van Wert County Hospital.
She was born on April 4, 1931, in Dublin Township, Mercer County, to Willard Charles and Helen Geneva (Counterman) Hays.
On Aug. 27, 1949, she married William B. Pond, who preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 2011.
She is survived by a son, Ken (Carla) Pond of Rockford; two daughters, Joan (Brad) Glass of St. Marys, and Jennifer (Scott) Ralston of Rockford; a sister, six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy Irene West, 95, of Celina passed away in her home on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012.
She was born on Sept. 7, 1917, in Darke County. She was the eldest of eight children, born to Garnet and Daisy (Norris) Hanna, who preceded her in death.
Dorothy married William R. West on Sept. 14, 1952, whom she has survived since his death on Sept. 3, 1998.
She is survived by one son, Robert Allen; by her daughter-in-law, Maureen; granddaughter Emily Anne; by two brothers; several nieces and nephews.
Sally E. VanHorn, 79, of Wapakoneta, died at 2:51 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at Wapakoneta Manor.
She was born Aug. 28, 1933, in Detroit, Mich. to Donald and Marian (Wiedock) Kipp, who preceded her in death.
She was married to Charles Barlow and Max VanHorn, both of whom preceded her in death.
She was beloved to Paul Klima, who survives in Wapakoneta. She is also survived by a daughter, Vicki Barlow Kudla of Mich.; two sons, John Barlow of Mich. and Charles Barlow of Fla.; and three grandchildren.
Carl Gene Porter, 72, of 1025 Caterbury Drive in Celina, passed away at 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
He was born on Dec. 24, 1939, in Columbus, to Carl and Emily (Woods) Porter, who preceded him in death.
On June 18, 1966, he married Barbara Barnett, who lives in Celina.
Also surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Jason and Michelle Porter of Celina, Darren and Heather Porter of Celina, Todd and Lauren Porter of Bluffton; daughter and son-in-law Emily and Jeff Adams of Tipp City; six grandchildren.
SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Shawnee has just one player taller than 5-foot-7 listed on its roster. Going up against a St. Marys team with six players taller than that, Shawnee planned on disrupting the Riders before they could use that advantage in the half court.
Shawnee’s full-court pressure created 31 turnovers and easy baskets as the Indians opened Western Buckeye League action with a 56-43 win over St. Marys on Thursday.
