NEW BREMEN — The giant pumpkins will return to New Bremen this weekend for an annual fall festival.
Pumpkinfest will run Friday and Saturday at Crown Pavilion, and this year’s festival will feature a slew of pumpkin-themed activities and a new showcase. Throughout the festival, a slew of pumpkin food items will be available.
“They have the pumpkin pancake breakfast, pumpkin brats, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin ale,” Southwestern Auglaize County Chamber of Commerce Director Scott Frey told The Evening Leader.
Norman U. Menker, 82, of St. Marys, died at 5:20 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at Otterbein – St. Marys.
He was born on Aug. 6, 1930, in Dayton, to Alvin and Anna (Heitbrink) Menker, and they preceded him in death.
On July 2, 1955, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Fort Loramie, he married Rosemary T. Albers, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 24, 2011.

NEW BREMEN — The village of New Bremen will be relocating utility wires that run through Lions Club Park underground, as councilors passed a resolution authorizing Village Administrator Wayne York to pursue contracts with the involved parties at their meeting Tuesday night.
ST. MARYS — Douglas Wine has filed a motion seeking to get his appeal heard by Ohio’s highest court.
Robert L. Francis, 81, formerly of 322 W. Madison St., a resident of Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community, died at 5:04 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Jan. 1, 1931, in Portsmouth, the son of Arthur and Opal (Bryan) Francis, and they preceded him in death.
Brema P. Stose, 94, of 201 Magnolia St., Celina, died at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at the Celina Manor Nursing Home in Celina.
She was born on Aug. 2, 1918, in Pandora, to Arthur and Vesta (Dukes) Kerns, and they preceded her in death.
On Jan. 20, 1968, she married Mark Stose, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 2000.
Norman Menker, 82, of St. Marys, died on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at Otterbein – St. Marys.
A Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West Chapel), in St. Marys.

NEW BREMEN — Teachers in the New Bremen Local School District spent their teacher in-service touring manufacturing plants and learning of local opportunities to help educate students on possible career paths at a business engagement session Monday afternoon.
The event, which was sponsored by the New Bremen Business Advisory Council, allowed educators to learn about opportunities available to students in New Bremen.
ST. MARYS — City Councilors learned about green energy options during Monday night’s meeting.
AMP representative Mike Weadock gave a presentation to St. Marys City Councilors regarding an upcoming solar energy project. Earlier this year, city officials submitted a proposal to be in contention for possibly hosting a solar field that would give the city access to green energy.
Gerald L. Seibert, 83, died on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born on May 23, 1929, in Spencerville, to Gilbert L. Seibert and Cleo (Counts) Seibert, and they preceded him in death.
On April 2, 1949, he married Jane E. Brockert, and she survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Nancy (Ken) Williamson of Webster Groves, Mo., and Joyce (Larry) Bakle of Maumee; a brother; three sisters; a brother-in-law.
