MONDAY ROUND-UP: Bowman fires a 34, Burke has a 37 for St. Marys golf team

ST. MARYS — Carter Bowman asked his teammates if they wanted to play another nine after the St. Marys golf team’s match against Wapakoneta.

After tying a season-best 34, the St. Marys sophomore wanted to keep the round going.

Bowman shot a 34 and the Riders’ second-position player Colin Burke fired a one-over par 37 to lead the Roughriders.

ACDD Explores Security Upgrades

NEW BREMEN — Clients being transferred through the Auglaize County Department of Developmental Disabilities will soon be receiving cameras in their transportation vehicles.

Superintendent Al Willis noted Transportation Superintendent Barack Wells will be presenting further on the addition of cameras on the school buses at the board’s November meeting, but Willis said he met with Barack, along with representatives from the bus company Peterman, a few months ago to start talks.

Search Progresses For SSD

ST. MARYS — The next phase in St. Marys Mayor Pat McGowan’s search for a new safety-service director started this week.

The deadline for applications for the position was Friday. Now, McGowan is tasked with finding the city’s second safety-service director in less than a year, after Jason Little announced his resignation in August, which is effective Oct. 26.

BOYS SOCCER

ST. MARYS 5, BOTKINS 0: The St. Marys boys soccer team stayed unbeaten with a 5-0 win over Botkins on Saturday evening to hand the Trojans their first loss. Zac Nelson, Zack Wilker, Brennan Brown, Patrizio Martinez Rodriguez and Nathan Wilker each scored a goal apiece for the Roughriders, who improved to 3-0-1 on the season. St. Marys keeper Luke Leffel, who has 10 saves this season, helped St. Marys to its second shutout of the season.

FOOTBALL: Minster's Schultz runs for 239 yards as Cats roll past New Bremen

MINSTER — The Minster Wildcats and New Bremen Cardinals returned on Saturday to finish what they started on Friday. Minster running back Korey Schultz and the Wildcats dominated both nights in Minster’s  51-19 win.

Schultz rushed for 239 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries.

“He averaged about 10 yards a carry and that was pretty good,” said Minster head coach Nate Moore.

Minster led 21-0 early in the second quarter when play resumed on Saturday.

Volunteers Help Farm Thrive

CRIDERSVILLE — In the Equestrian Therapy Program at Fassett Farm, a child with autism can learn confidence and a woman with multiple sclerosis can regain her ability to walk, and volunteers drive the farm’s ability to serve riders in a more than 10-county radius.

Donna Jo Schell, 44

September 10, 2012

Donna Jo Schell, 44, of 255 Marsh Drive, St. Marys, died at 3:50 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at Golden Living Center – Valley in St. Marys.

She was born on June 29, 1968, in St. Marys, to Donald and Retha (Orick) Schell, and her mother preceded her in death. Her father survives in St. Marys.

She is also survived by a brother; a sister.

Rites are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West Chapel), St. Marys.

Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens near Moulton.

Paul R. Maltinsky, 92

Paul R. Maltinsky, 92, formerly of 240 N. Main St., Minster, died at 5:20 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at Elmwood of New Bremen.

He was born on Oct. 3, 1919, in Wheeling, W.Va., to former immigrants from Austria-Hungary Paul and Anna (Stanek) Malatinsky, and they preceded him in death.

On July 31, 1948, at St. Michael Church in Fort Loramie, he married Ann M. Barhorst, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 25, 2008.

Othmar J. Homan, 83

Othmar J. Homan, 83, of 1731 Rolfes Road, Maria Stein, died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at his home.

He was born on Feb. 24, 1929, in Maria Stein, to Lawrence and Mary (Schulte) Homan, and they preceded him in death.

On May 16, 1953, in Cassella, he married Rita A. Tumbusch, and she preceded him in death on June 18, 2004. 

Dorothy Mae Barber, 95

September 10, 2012

Dorothy Mae Barber, 95, of Mendon, died on Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at Colonial Nursing Home in Rockford.

She was born on Jan. 23, 1917, in Mercer County, to Cecil Yewey and Stella Shanklin, and they preceded her in death.

On Oct. 16, 1943, she married J. Vernon Barber, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 2007.

She is survived by three daughters, Shirley (Steve) Bell of Celina, Marilyn (James) Dwenger of Celina and Joanne (Dan) Lampert of Anna; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
