10 Years Ago This Week – 2002

The St. Marys Roughriders logged their second Western Buckeye League victory in a row with a tight, 14-7 win over the Lima Shawnee Indians. 

Following a scoreless first quarter, the ‘Riders got on the board in the second period when running back Justin Nagel scored on a 40-yard run, his first of both touchdowns in the evening. 

Deputies Seize 19 Dogs

CELINA — Law enforcement officials in Mercer County seized 19 dogs from a residence on Ohio 49 on Wednesday.

In a news release, Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey said deputies executed a search warrant at 972 State Route 49 in reference to an investigation involving conditions of animals, specifically dogs on the property.

Upon searching the property, deputies discovered a large number of dogs located in several buildings, including the main house, out buildings and campers on the property. Deputies estimated there to be 150 to 200 dogs on the property.

BOYS SOCCER: St. Marys' 5-0 win over No. 3 Bath one of program's best

BATH TOWNSHIP — The St. Marys boys soccer team hardly missed an opportunity to stick the ball into the net and further stun a woozy, formerly unbeaten Bath Wildcat team.

St. Marys scored three first-half goals and steamrolled to one of the biggest regular-season wins in the program history by defeating third-ranked Bath 5-0 on Tuesday evening.

J. Dolores Deitsch, 82

September 13, 2012

J. Dolores Deitsch, 82, of 220 Enterprise St., Celina, died at 12:48 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born on Feb. 14, 1930, in Chicago, Ill., to Francis L. and Henrietta ( Hirth ) Fowler, and they preceded her in death.

On April 7, 1950, she married Carl Deitsch, and he survives in Celina.

Project Celebrated

ST. MARYS — An anchor of St. Marys Square celebrated three months of construction with cake, balloons and an appearance by one of the most recognizable characters in the world.

Jeff and Mary Monfort hosted a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday night to mark the completion of a renovation project at their McDonald’s restaurant at 1206 Indiana Ave. in St. Marys. Balloons hung from the  rafters and visitors to the eatery enjoyed cake and had the chance to meet Ronald McDonald.
