MINSTER — Carter Bowman wasn’t thrilled with a tie, even if it was for the best score on the course on Wednesday.
Bowman finished tied for medalist at the Auglaize County Invitational at Arrowhead Golf Club, but the St. Marys sophomore standout golfer was still kicking himself about how he finished down the stretch.
“It’s medalist, but it could’ve been a whole lot better,” Bowman said.
ST. MARYS — A group of more than 20 St. Marys youth gathered at Grand Lake St. Marys State Park Wednesday afternoon for the third and final installment of Fishing, Fun & Fellowship.
Fishing, Fun & Fellowship was open to St. Marys students entering the first through fifth grade and was held once in June, July and August. The event was offered free of charge for participants through a grant.
ST. MARYS — As sirens wailed through the air, screams could be heard coming from the school bus turned over off U.S. 33. The first responders calmed down the frantic parents and the students’ peers, as others worked to free the trapped children and unconscious driver from the inside of the vehicle by cutting open the top of the bus. Luckily, everyone was extracted safely, but to those in the audience, it represented their worst fear.

MINSTER — The Minster boys golf team distanced itself from the rest of the 14-team field to capture the Cardinal Invitational in the comfort of its home course Arrowhead Golf Club on Tuesday.
Minster sophomore Xavier Francis fired a two-over par 74, Freddie Purdy and John Burke each had 78s, and Josh Tumbusch shot an 82 for the Minster team total of 312.
Minster was 10 shots clear of second-place Russia, which shot a 322 on a day of early rain followed by clear, cool conditions.
NEW KNOXVILLE — The village of New Knoxville will welcome two new additions to its police force, as councilors approved the hiring of two auxiliary officers Tuesday night at their regular meeting.
“This has been in the works for a couple months,” Mayor Keith Leffel said. “Eric (Morris), the police chief, came to us a few months back and floated the idea of bringing on a couple of auxiliary officers. These auxiliary officers would be no different than the auxiliary for the sheriff or the county, and other police departments use them.”
NEW BREMEN — Councilors untabled an ordinance and moved forward with the legislation, making all A-1 agricultural zones exempt from the height of grass requirement.
During their meeting Tuesday evening, councilors debated not exempting noxious weeds in the legislation — mainly thistles.
“Even though you alleviate them, they’re going to come from other places, too,” Councilor John Schwartz said. “Once they get airborne, they travel miles and miles.”
Doris Aileen Barber, 92, of Delaware, formerly of Celina, died at 8:10 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, at Wintersong Village Nursing Home of Delaware.
She was born on Aug. 14, 1919, in Mendon, to Robert and Bertha (Banter) Barber, and they preceded her in death.
Doris is survived by her sister; two sisters-in-law; four nieces.
She was preceded in death by three brothers; a brother-in-law.
Myron “Sam” Katterheinrich, 86, of 216 W. Spring St., New Knoxville, died suddenly at 11:24 a.m. Monday, Aug., 13, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born on Oct. 17, 1925, in New Knoxville, the son of Samuel and Ida (Schultz) Katterheinrich, and they preceded him in death.
He married Joanne Koenig on Aug. 23, 1947, and she survives at the residence.
August 14th
Eleanor L. Wolfe, 91, formerly of 402 S. Main St., New Knoxville, died on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at Cridersville Health Care Center.
She was born on June 4, 1921, in Kenmore, the daughter of Ausker and Mary (Brant) Imler, and they preceded her in death.
On June 2, 1943, she married Dr. Herbert S. Wolfe, while he was preparing for duty as a medical officer in World War II. Herbert preceded her in death in 2002.
Maurice J. Stammen, 80, of New Bremen, died at 1:31 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, at the St. Marys Living Center.
He was born on July 3, 1932, in New Weston, the son of Norbert and Frances (Westgerdes) Stammen, and they preceded him in death.
On July 4, 1957, he married Joan Hamberg, and she survives in New Bremen.
He is also survived by his sisters, Laura Sudhoff of Fort Recovery and Dolores Robbins of Celina; a brother, Harold (Irene) Stammen of New Bremen; a number of nieces and nephews.
