Campground Offering Discounts Through October

ST. MARYS — Campers hitting Grand Lake St. Marys State Park will be able to take advantage of a new discount that is exclusive to the facility.

The new rates discount campsites and shelterhouse rentals by 50 percent and getaway cabins by 25 percent. The discounts are good through Oct. 31, excluding Aug. 31 to Sept. 2 and Oct. 4-6.

Vaccines Vital For Back To School

WAPAKONETA — As children get their last minute back-to-school supplies, an Auglaize County medical authority said there's something else parents shouldn't forget.

"Parents' checklists should not only be about school supplies, but immunizations," Auglaize County Medical Director Dr. Juan Torres said. "Along with getting school supplies and new clothes, families should make a quick vaccine visit to their primary care provider."

Torres recommended families check on the immunization status of their children.

Courts Named To Minster Bank

ST. MARYS — Members of a local school board awarded naming rights to a new tennis complex during a special meeting Friday evening.

Members of the St. Marys Board of Education awarded the naming rights to the new tennis complex at the high school-middle school site to Minster Bank for a period of five years.

The proceeds for the naming rights agreement are to be directed to the district’s Permanent Improvement Fund as follows: $1,666 for 2012, $1,667 for 2013 and $1,667 for 2014.

CELINA — The latest pilot project to hit Grand Lake St. Marys kicked off this week, utilizing a water purification system that has shown past progress in the Deep Horizon oil spill off the Gulf Coast.

Mike Mangham with EcoUSA and Keith Boulais with Premier Materials kicked off their Kria Ionizer Wednesday morning near the city of Celina’s water intake area, and noted they had already seen an effect by that afternoon.

Robert E. “Red” Katterhenry, 87

August 24, 2012

Robert E. “Red” Katterhenry, 87, of 1242 Quail Run, Wapakoneta, died at 11:26 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.

He was born on Dec. 25, 1924, in Wapakoneta, the son of Gus and Daisy (DeLong) Katterhenry, and they preceded him in death.

On Jan. 9, 1945, he married Anna Hay, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 2004.

Virginia R. Hegemier, 83

August 24, 2012

Virginia R. Hegemier, 83, of 18590 State Route 29, New Knoxville, died at 8:05 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community.

She was born on May 3, 1929, in St. Marys, the daughter of William and Tessa (Vogel) Glass, and they preceded her in death.

On Nov. 2, 1947, she married David Hegemier, and he preceded her in death on July 4, 2011.

Griffin’s quick wit, genial smile, and zest for football were on full display in a town that loves the sport as much as he does — St. Marys — on Thursday night.

NEW KNOXVILLE – The St. Marys boys soccer team dominated play on offense in an 8-2 victory over the New Knoxville Rangers in the opening game for both teams Thursday.
