TRACK: Minster has five crowned champs on first day of MAC meet

NEW BREMEN — Minster crowned five Midwest Athletic Conference champions on the first day of the conference’s track championships.

The Minster boys are out to an early lead in the team standings with 62 points, while the Minster girls (35.5 points) are in second behind Versailles (47 points).

Tuesday Winners

Minster’s Kayla Wuebker earned another Midwest Athletic Conference title in the pole vault, clearing 12 feet.

Minster’s Paul Dues won the boys high jump, clearing six feet.

SOFTBALL: St. Henry downs New Bremen in sectional final

NEW BREMEN — The New Bremen softball team ended its season losing to St. Henry 9-2 in the Division IV sectional finals.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Redskins cracked the scoreboard first when lead off batter, Ashley Heitkamp infield singled. Heitkamp then stole second and third and scored when Kinzie Stammen grounded out an RBI to third base.

The Cardinals offense tied the game up when senior, Kristen Miller had an RBI single to send classmate, Taylor Carter home.  

BASEBALL: New Bremen a win away from MAC title, Minster upended by Flyers

FORT RECOVERY — Good defense and clutch pitching from Aaron Clune allowed the New Bremen Cardinals to emerge from Fort Recovery with a 3-1 victory and moved the Cardinals a win on Saturday away from at least a share of the Midwest Athletic Conference title.

The victory allowed the Cardinals to remain tied for the MAC lead with a 6-2 record. Overall they are 12-8. Fort Recovery drops to 7-15 and 1-8 in the MAC.

Clune pitched the complete game victory for New Bremen giving up one unearned run on four hits. He struck out three and walked one.

Village Ponders Removing Spots

NEW BREMEN — Residents and visitors in an area village could be seeing a few parking spots eliminated in the downtown area as part of a proposed ordinance to the village council.

During their brief meeting Tuesday evening, members of the New Bremen Village Council passed the first reading of an ordinance to eliminate parking on the north side of Monroe Street between Washington and Water streets.

New Knoxville Gifted Flag

NEW KNXOVILLE — A flag that once flew over a sortie in Afghanistan is now on display in the New Knoxville Village Administration Building.

Norma Schroer, of Operation New Knoxville Cares (ONKC), visited with New Knoxville Village Councilors Tuesday night to present a flag from a local veteran and a certificate from the Alpha Company of the St. Marys Guard Unit.

Cynthia S. Warnecke, 53

Cynthia S. Warnecke, 53, formerly of Spencerville, died at 12:25 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, Ind.

She is the daughter of Hubert and Janice Warnecke.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville.

Charles Gary Kitchen, 68

May 9, 2012

Charles Gary Kitchen, 68, of 16244 Ohio 66 North in rural St. Marys, died on Friday, May 4, 2012, at his residence.

He was born on April 24, 1944, in Lawrence County, Ky., to Milton G. Kitchen and Lydia Newsome, and they preceded him in death.

On March 28, 1964, in Olive Hill, Ky., he married Colista Middleton, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 12.
