Betty J. Hoselton, 83

April 17, 2012

Betty J. Hoselton, 83, of Celina, died at 4:10 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Celina Manor.

She was born on June 21, 1928, in Raymond City, W.Va., to Otto Spaulding and Tressie Marie Burklo, and they preceded her in death.

On April 28, 1946, she married Chales W. Hoselton, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 2011.

Patricia R. Gray, 85

Patricia R. Gray, 85, of 2700 Pelham Court, Toledo, died at 4:50 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2012, in Clarksville, Tenn.

She was born on Feb. 6, 1927, in Toledo, to Ernest and Ruth (Sherman) Hess, and they preceded her in death.

On Feb. 14, 1969, in Toledo, she married Fred Gray Jr., and he preceded her in death on May 30, 1990.

SOFTBALL: ST. HENRY 4, ST. MARYS 3

ST. HENRY — St. Henry erased the St. Marys softball team’s 3-0 lead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Redskins kept the score right there and defeated the Roughriders 4-3 on Monday night.

St. Marys led 1-0 heading into the top of the fourth. The Riders added a run in the fourth when Tannar Rutschilling reached on a fielder’s choice, Carly Carnes walked and Kiley Schamp hit a ball back up through the box for an RBI single.

Fatal Crash In Mercer County

CELINA — A Celina woman was killed in a collision on U.S. 127 Monday morning.

According to a news release, Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey said deputies are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred on U.S. 127, just north of Clover Four Road.  Mercer County 911 received a call at 11:45 a.m. Monday regarding the collision.

BASEBALL: Minster rolls in game at Fifth Third Field in Dayton

DAYTON — Minster shook off a vulnerable first half inning in the field and got back to its winning ways in the plush surroundings of a professional ballpark.

TRACK: Minster boys capture Memorial title (with photo gallery)

MINSTER — The Minster boys track team won the Minster Memorial Invitational on Saturday, distancing itself from the rest of the 14-team field with 165 points on a soggy day. New Bremen finished fifth, St. Marys took seventh and New Knoxville was 14th in the boys standings.

The Minster girls team finished second to first-place Versailles (116 points) with 105 points. New Bremen finished seventh, St. Marys was ninth and New Knoxville took 15th in the 16-team girls event.

Playground Takes Shape

NEW BREMEN — It all started with a laugh, and after a year and a half of fundraising, planning and designing, the Sunshine Playground structure is now standing in Bremenfest Park.

Approximately 55 volunteers split into five teams Saturday morning to put together the structure of the 100 percent handicapped accessible playground. The Sunshine Playground will be the only handicapped accessible playground in west central Ohio.

Volunteers Lend A Helping Hand

BASEBALL: Riders rally past Elida, Minster beats New Bremen 1-0

ST. MARYS — The St. Marys baseball team again found a way to deliver in the clutch in the late innings.

The Roughriders won their second last at-bat win in as many nights with three runs in the top of the seventh to rally past the Elida Bulldogs 6-4 on Friday night.

St. Marys improved to 9-4, 3-1 in the Western Buckeye League.

Steven Paulus went 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs batted to lead the Riders at the plate.

ELIDA — St. Marys’ Harle Smith homered and doubled while driving in four runs as the St. Marys softball team run-ruled the Elida Bulldogs in five innings, 12-2, on Friday night.

Smith collected three hits to lead a nine-hit Roughrider hitting attack.

Shelby Goodwin drove in two runs for St. Marys. Kiley Schamp tripled, had two hits and an RBI. Katlyn Brown and Paige Dicus each added an RBI.
