Evelyn C. Eiting, 84, formerly of Eiting Road, Minster, a resident of Otterbein-St. Marys, died at 2 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at Otterbein-St. Marys.
She was born on Dec. 1, 1927, in Maria Stein, to William and Mary (Buening) Overman, and they preceded her in death.
On March 3, 1962, she married Wilmer “Bud” Eiting, and he preceded her in death on April 11, 1973.
She is survived by her daughter Elaine (Eric) Roemer of Ancona, Ill.; two grandchildren; a sister; two sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law.
ST. MARYS — Defiance scored eight times in the third inning and starting pitcher Anthony Kidston retired the final 12 St. Marys batters in Defiance’s 14-1 win at K.C. Geiger Park on Tuesday.
“Defiance is a strong team and you have to play your A game if you want to beat someone the quality of Defiance,” St. Marys head coach Dave Huber said.
St. Marys fell to 13-6 and 5-2 in the Western Buckeye League.

DEFIANCE — St. Marys fell to 4-10, 2-5 in the WBL with a 11-9 loss at Defiance on Tuesday. St. Marys hosts Coldwater on Thursday night.

SPENCERVILLE — The Minster softball team collected 16 hits and run-ruled Spencerville in five innings on Tuesday.
Regan Hahn went 4-for-4 with four runs batted in. Alexis Robinson was 3-for-4. Jayden Hahn drove in three runs for the Wildcats.
CELINA — The St. Marys boys and girls track teams turned in a 19 top-four individual finishes in a tri-meet at Celina on Tuesday night.
The St. Marys boys team finished third with 24 points. Celina won with 83 points and Shawnee collected 67 points. Grand Lake Christian School earned one point.
The St. Marys girls team finished third with 17 points. Celina won with 117 points, and Shawnee had 41 points.

Ivan M. Walters, 84, of Decatur, Ind., formerly of Van Wert, died at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was born on Dec. 28, 1927, in Van Wert, to Stanley Walters and Frieda Schaadt, and they preceded him in death.
On Nov. 7, 1948, he married Mary Bess Weyant, and she survives.
Jeffrey Scott Becker, 43, of Providence Village, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012, at his residence of a heart attack.
He was born on July 5, 1968, in Celina, to Gary O. and Angie Miller Becker, and they survive him.
On March 23, 1991, he married Ann Renee Faller, and she survives him.
Rosalie V. “Rosie” Frey, 74, of Wapakoneta, died at 1:06 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
She was born on June 17, 1937, in Rockford, the daughter of Edward F. and Ona (Piepmeyer) Hines, and they preceded her in death.
On June 14, 1958, she married Keith Garold Frey, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 1984.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Delight Hines of Tillamook, Ore.; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers; a sister; two infant sisters.
ST. MARYS — There is a new group in town that is focusing its efforts on football.
The Roughrider Touchdown Club Inc. is a nonprofit, 501c3 organization that has been in the works for approximately a year, President Tom Knous said, and the club recently has headquartered itself in the former Hans and Fritz Restaurant building in the South Street parking lot.
KOSSUTH — A handful of local residents learned the story behind the name of their town from visitors making a documentary about a Hungarian freedom fighter and his impact on the United States.
A crowd gathered at Kossuth Zion United Methodist Church and were regaled with tales about Louis Kossuth — the man whom the town of Kossuth is named. Kossuth was a Hungarian freedom fighter who launched a bid for independence against the Austrians in 1848.
CELINA — Deputies in Mercer County are investigating the fifth traffic crash on county roads since the end of January.
In a news release, Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey reported deputies are investigating the fifth fatal traffic crash and the ninth traffic fatality in Mercer County since January 23. Mercer County Central Dispatch received a 911 call at 2:07 p.m. Tuesday of an injury crash near the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office.
