Wilda Miars, 85, formerly of 04521 Auglaize County Road 33-A in St. Marys, died at 9:12 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Memorial Hospital of Union County in Marysville.
She was born on March 18, 1927, in St. Marys, to Vernon and Ireta (Seib) Schmehl.
On May 24, 1947, she married Gail V. Miars, who died on Sept. 20, 1995.
Elizabeth Rosina King, 92, of Countryside Continuing Care Center, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, April 27, 2012.
She was born in New Bremen on Aug. 19, 1919, to Harry and Bertha (Huelsmeyer) Wiehe. Elizabeth married the love of her life, James P. King, in New Bremen on Oct. 12, 1940. They were married for 57 years.
Elizabeth was a homemaker raising three sons, John R. King, Thomas H. King and David J. King.
CELINA — Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey issued a warning for possible driveway maintenance scam artists. Shelby County Sheriff John Lenhart earlier this week reported scam artists in Shelby County.
One incident in Shelby County involved an elderly victim who agreed to have crushed gravel put in her driveway. When the crew was finished, they demanded $9,800. The crew did not put down crushed gravel — they simply sprayed oil and tar mix and some pea gravel.
NEW KNOXVILLE — New Knoxville threw a change-up at Coldwater.
The Cavs nearly whiffed.
New Knoxville gave Coldwater all it could handle for five innings before the Cavs rallied with two runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings to secure a 6-3 win over the Rangers on Thursday night.
New Knoxville led 3-2 through five innings as Coldwater couldn’t get a key hit.
Coldwater came off a marathon 15-inning win over Minster on Tuesday night in which opposing pitcher Adam Niemeyer threw 10 shutout innings with a blazing fastball.
The St. Marys Roughriders softball team got off to a rough start giving up nine runs in the first three innings against the Coldwater Cavaliers, but the Riders never died and came back to tie the game at 10-10.
The Riders just couldn’t get over the hump, though.
The Riders gave up a run in the top of the seventh to give the Cavaliers an 11-10 victory Thursday at K. C. Geiger Park.
ROCKFORD — The Minster boys and girls track teams swept a quad meet in Rockford against Parkway, New Knoxville and Fort Jennings.
The Minster girls team collected 139 points.
The Wildcat boys had 143 points. The New Knoxville boys team finished third with 38 points.

New Knoxville’s P.J. Kiernan won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 18.28 seconds and won the 300 hurdles with a 45.9-second mark.
ST. MARYS — For the past few weeks, students at Holy Rosary School have collected, sorted and counted the loose change in sippy cups they are donating to Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley.
Wilda Miars, 85, formerly of St. Marys, died on Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Memorial Hospital of Union County in Marysville.
Arrangements are being completed with the Miller Funeral Home in St. Marys.
Alma E. Clune, 76, of 1965 Amsterdam Road, Minster, died at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at her residence.
She was born on June 30, 1935, in Montezuma, to Izador and Bertha (Tumbusch) Steinke, and they preceded her in death.
On Nov. 24, 1956, in Montezuma, she married Leonard F. Clune, and he survives.
She is also survived by her children, Jane (Ron) Phlipot of Troy, Nancy (Wally) Wagner of Minster and Rick (Carol) Clune of Piqua; three siblings; a sister-in-law; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Byron “Barney” C. Anderson, 88, formerly of Celina, died at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at Wapakoneta Manor.
He was born on June 6, 1923, in Jefferson Township, to Charles and Mary Granger Anderson, and they preceded him in death.
On Nov. 12, 1955, he married Garnet Dalton, and she preceded him in death on May 12, 2011.
He is survived by two sons, Barry (Rita) Anderson of Wapakoneta and Todd (Beth) Anderson of St. Augustine, Fla.; two grandchildren; one stepgrandson; one sister; two sisters-in-law.
