Area baseball and softball teams get tourney draws

Division II Baseball

The St. Marys baseball team received the second seed and a first-round bye in the first round of the Division II sectional at Elida’s Ed Sandy Field.

St. Marys will play the winner of Celina and Shawnee on Wednesday, May 9 at 5 p.m.

Elida and Kenton open the sectional on Saturday, May 5 with 10 a.m. game. The winner of that game plays top-seeded Wapakoneta on Tuesday, May 8 at 5 p.m.

Celina plays Shawnee on Saturday, May 9 at 12:30 p.m. after the Elida-Kenton game.

YMCA Hosts Annual Event

CELINA — For more than two decades, the area’s YMCA has opened its doors to celebrate families.

“This is probably our 26th year,” Auglaize-Mercer Family YMCA CEO Allen Baskett said of Saturday’s Healthy Kids Day event. “We’ve been doing this since we opened.”

The event, Baskett noted, is a national event held at YMCAs all over the country.

“Today is National YMCA Healthy Kids Day,” he said. “YMCAs across the country are having events like this in their own communities.”

Students Strut Their Stuff

ST. MARYS — St. Marys Memorial High School students dressed to the nines along with their families and friends packed the high school on Saturday to participate in the chamber’s annual prom promenade.

“The chamber’s been doing it for about 16 or 17 years,” St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce Director Kelly Kill said. “It’s an opportunity for the kids to shine.”

She added prom promenade is an opportunity for the students to shine and show off all their effort.
