COLUMBUS – The Ohio High School Athletic Association will add a seventh division in football.
The OHSAA Board of Directors approved the measure with a 6-3 vote on Thursday.
The new division will be in place starting in 2013.
The new Division I will include the top 10 percent of schools in enrollment. The rest of the state's 644 programs will be divided evenly among the other six divisions.
CELINA — Law enforcement officials in Mercer County checked up on the registration information of more than 60 sex offenders this week.
In a news release, Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey said deputies teamed with members of the United States Marshal’s Violent Fugitive Task Force to verify compliance with all 64 registered sex offenders in Mercer County on Tuesday and Wednesday. Sex offenders are required to register their address and place of employment with the sheriff periodically.
NEW BREMEN — Jason McGaharan fielded some sympathetic responses from people he told in the last week that he’s going to be the new head football coach at New Bremen.
“They’ve looked at me and said, ‘Ooh, that’s going to be challenging,’” McGaharan said.

McGaharan, who was introduced as New Bremen’s new head coach at a press conference at New Bremen High School on Wednesday night, is no stranger to overcoming life’s obstacles.
CELINA — A Korean man convicted of causing a collision that killed a Minster girl in October was sentenced to 180 days in jail and will be deported.
Mercer County Common Pleas Court Judge Jeffrey Ingraham imposed the jail term on Jinghao Xu, 50, as a result of a collision that took place Oct. 15 at the intersection of Ohio 119 and U.S. 127 in Granville Township. Aubrey L. Bruns, 3, of Minster, died from injuries suffered in the collision.
NEW BREMEN — District residents will soon find a survey in their mailbox for feedback about their feelings about the New Bremen Local School District and the school levy voters turned down in March.
