ST. MARYS — Residents looking for something to do on Saturday can stop by a local school for food and entertainment as part of an annual fundraiser for the area’s young musicians.
The St. Marys Band Parents Organization is holding its annual Italian Night on Saturday.
The event will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, with attendees dining on lasagna, applesauce or tossed salad, garlic bread, corn or green beans, drink and dessert.
NEW BREMEN — The fans huddled beneath blankets, fielders’ teeth chattered as they left the dugout to take their spots in the field and the icy wind howled across the open layout surrounding New Bremen High School.
New Bremen pitcher Brent Bertke thought it was perfectly lovely weather.
Bertke tossed a complete game with eight strikeouts to lead the Cardinals to a 4-3 victory over Coldwater on Tuesday night.
Call him New Bremen’s Mr. Freeze.
KENTON 2, ST. MARYS 1
ST. MARYS — The St. Marys Roughriders committed four errors and the Kenton Bulldogs took full advantage as they scored two unearned runs to defeat the Riders 2-1 in a WBL game held at K. C. Geiger Park.
The Riders, down 2-0, got on the board with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kiley Schamp led off with a single to center and went to second on a bunt by Kaitlyn Brown and Schamp scored on a single to left by Harle Smith, but Roop grounded into a double play to end the inning.
The St. Marys boys track team finished second and the Rider girls were second in a tri-meet at Versailles on Tuesday night.
Girls Winners
The Riders’ 3200 meter relay team of Lexi Grothause, Amanda Dues, Kristen Dammeyer and Sara Lininger won with a time of 11:03.
St. Marys’ Kami Menchhofer won the 100 meter hurdles with a 17.93-second time.
Dammeyer captured the 1600 meter run victory with a 6:13.47 pace.
Lininger won the 300 meter hurdleswith a 53.07-second time.
