COLUMBUS — The Ohio High School Athletic Association will again put a competitive balance proposal to a vote with Ohio high school principals in May.
In 2011, a measure attempting to level the playing field in high school sports between private and public schools was defeated, 332-303, by Ohio’s principals.
The OHSAA’s Board of Directors last Friday decided to put the referendum to a vote between May 1 and May 15.
The OHSAA called the proposal “slightly revised” from the 2011 version.
ST. MARYS — After raising almost $2,000, local middle school students celebrated by putting their teachers and administrators up to different kinds of humiliation during a Pennies for Patients assembly on Friday.

Geraldine Miller, longtime St. Marys resident, current resident of Malibu, Calif., passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 15, 2012, in Santa Monica, Calif., of pulmonary disease.
She was born in Spencerville, to Amy and Gerald Koening, and they preceded her in death.
In 1951, she married William Miller of St. Marys.
Donald G. McName Sr., 82, of Lima, formerly of Buckland, died at 9:27 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012, at Koester Pavilion in Troy.
He was born on April 6, 1929, in Buckland, the son of Walter E. and Ruth (Flarida) McName, and they preceded him in death.
ST. MARYS — A group of high school students have the opportunity to head to Salt Lake City for the national portion of their competition after winning in Ohio.
There were 27 members of the St. Marys Memorial High School DECA — or Distributive Education Clubs of America — team who competed at the Ohio DECA Career Development Conference March 16-18 in Columbus.
ST. MARYS — Joint Township District Memorial Hospital and the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office are teaming up to provide area residents with a safe way to dispose of unused, expired and unwanted prescription drugs.
Jack Clinton Willeke, 40, of St. Marys, died on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at the Cleveland Clinic.
He was born on Feb. 29, 1972, in Bellefontaine, to Wayne E. Willeke and Lillian Mary (Thaxton) Willeke, and his father preceded him in death. His mother survives him in Bellefontaine.
On Dec. 30, 2000, in New Bremen, he married Kendra Grimm, and she survives.
Dorothy M. Hittepole, of Wapakoneta, died at 10:34 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at her residence.
She was born in Botkins, to Joseph and Clara (Freistuhler) Werling, and they preceded her in death.
On Feb. 17, 1947, she married Chester E. Hittepole Sr., and he preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 2011.
She is survived by two children, Chester E. Hittepole Jr. and Sharon Shoup, both of Wapakoneta; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother; a sister.
