ST. MARYS — The local DARE deputy spoke with high school students to speak with them about the dangers of sexting and being too liberal with their personal information on the Internet, such as on social media sites.
“It’s a serious problem across the United States, and it is a problem here in St. Marys,” Memorial High School teacher Monica VanderHorst said to her health students about sexting.
Blank noted he visits all the schools in Auglaize County.
ST. MARYS — Over the next two weeks, a local library will be holding a magazine drive to renew its magazine subscriptions that are available for patrons.
The St. Marys Community Public Library is holding its annual Adopt a Magazine drive, in which community members can buy a magazine subscription for the library. St. Marys Community Public Library Director Sue Pittman said the library has already had numerous magazine subscription donations.
"Leader Look Back," is a collection of stories and headlines from 75, 50 and 25 years ago this week. This week's edition examines stories from March 20 to March 26, 1937, 1962 and 1987.
Mark Joseph Martensen, 57, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2012, at his residence.
He was born on Aug. 3, 1954, in Columbus, to Hank Martensen and Joan Martensen, and his father preceded him in death. His mother survives him.
On Aug. 24, 2002, he married Lori, formerly of St. Marys, and she survives.
Cyril G. Everman, 85, of 2251 State Route 716, Maria Stein, died on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at his residence.
He was born on Nov. 9, 1926, in Maria Stein, to August and Anna (Miller) Everman, and they preceded him in death.
On Oct. 25, 1952, in Cassella, he married Wilma (Hemmelgarn) Everman, and she survives.
R. Bruce Adair, 66, of Wapakoneta, died at 11:33 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2012, at Lima Memorial Health System.
Arrangements are incomplete at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta.
ST. MARYS — An Ohio senator says the Obama administration needs to do more to ease soaring fuel prices.
“Simply put in order to get energy prices down, we have to deal with the supply issue,” U.S. Sen. Rob Portman said during a telelconference with regional media on Thursday. “It’s got to be a reliable supply so it’s a matter of producing more energy in our country, particularly on public land.”
ST. MARYS — Each year, the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce recognizes outstanding individuals who have dedicated much of their time and effort to making St. Marys better by awarding them with the Builder of Bridges award.
“The award is presented as a recognition of community service, contributions and the individual’s work to make St. Marys a better place,” Master of Ceremonies Jeff Squire said Thursday night at the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet.
Maurice Rentz, 94, of State Route 274, Chickasaw, died on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at his residence.
He was born on Feb. 14, 1918, in Chickasaw, to August and Anna (Rose) Rentz, and they preceded him in death.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers; three sisters.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Chickasaw.
Burial will follow in Precious Blood Cemetery.
D. Wayne Kline, 89, of Rockford, died at 3:21 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Van Wert County Hospital.
He was born on March 3, 1923, in Liberty Township, to Henry J. Kline and Elise Sutton, and they preceded him in death.
On June 29, 1946, at the Walnut Grove Church in Ohio City, he married Lillian G. Kline, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 1.
