MINSTER — The Minster girls basketball team defeated Ft. Recovery 46-40 on Thursday night, handing the Indians their first loss in Midwest Athletic Conference play.
Minster’s win made it eight straight victories and extended their streak of holding opponents to 29 or fewer points to six games.
Kayla Wuebker led Minster with 14 points, while Tara Clune added 12 and Kayla Albers and Samantha Hoelscher each scored 5.
Kelly Nietfeld scored 12 points for Ft. Recovery. Olivia Schwieterman added 10 and Lennartz scored 6.
ST. MARYS — A carbon monoxide detector may have saved a few lives on Wednesday.
St. Marys Fire Chief Joey Weaver told The Evening Leader a call came into the fire department at 8:14 p.m. Wednesday advising of a possible carbon monoxide leak at 1298 Neil Ave. Weaver said when firefighters arrived, they detected elevated levels of the odorless gas.
"The occupant called us to check it out," Weaver said. "They were complaining for some headaches and wanted us to check the residence for CO."
NEW KNOXVILLE 67, PARKWAY 20
NEW KNOXVILLE — The New Knoxville girls basketball team roared to a 67-20 win over the Parkway Panthers on Thursday night at The Barn.
Tiana Heidt led a quartet of Rangers in double figures with 22 points. Haley Horstman added 14 points while Haley Dillon and Paige Lehman scored 11 points apiece.
Parkway’s Becca Harshman led the Panthers with six points.
ST. HENRY 44, NEW BREMEN 33
ST. HENRY — St. Henry rallied from a seven-point deficit at the beginning of the fourth quarter and outscored New Bremen 24-6 in the fourth to pull out a 44-33 win over New Bremen on Thursday night.
New Bremen led 27-20 after the Cardinals held St. Henry to just three points in the third quarter, but St. Henry’s depth showed in the final eight minutes.
ST. MARYS — At 17-years-old, MMCS Brock Luedeke made a decision that has impacted the rest of his life.
At the time, Luedeke, the son of Edward and Ginger Luedeke of Union City, Tenn., and Mike and Mary Zimmerman of St. Marys, was a senior in high school, anticipating his 18th birthday and making plans to attend the University of Tennessee – Knoxville. A friend of his had recently joined the military and referred Luedeke to a recruiter.
ST. MARYS — As of Thursday morning, the United Way of Auglaize County had raised $285,000 for its 2011 campaign, just $15,000 shy of its $300,000 goal, and a few phone calls made a big difference.
“This morning, (United Way of Auglaize County Executive Director) Randy (Fisher) and I were on the telephone, and at one point, I thought he was going to come through the telephone line to get a high five,” Campaign Chair Rex Katterheinrich said at the fourth annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon Thursday afternoon.

WAPAKONETA — The Wapakoneta Education Association (WEA) and the Wapakoneta City Schools Board of Education may be closer to reaching a contract agreement after a non-binding meeting Wed-nesday with the federal mediator overseeing their case.
“Informal discussion has led to a conceptual agreement that may lead to a resolution,” Wapakoneta City Schools Superintendent Keith Horner said this morning.
