ST. MARYS — For St Marys senior Tyler Rose, graduating from high school will be a bittersweet event.
Rose, who has been involved in sports and clubs at St. Marys Memorial High School, will miss having “the best of both worlds,” he noted.
“(You get) that small town feel, and also at sporting events the whole town comes to support you,” Rose said.
Rose plays baseball and football for the school, and is a first and third baseman and a tight end, respectively.
ST. MARYS — A local automotive component supplier recently reached a milestone in its almost three decades of operation.
On Friday, Setex marked its 5 millionth car seat manufactured for Honda. Company officials, as well as representatives from Honda and the city of St. Marys, attended a ceremony to mark the occasion.
ST. MARYS — "Footloose" will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday and at 2 p.m. Sunday at Memorial High School in the Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. All-Activity passes will be honored
CELINA — Wright State University Lake Campus held its open house Thursday afternoon in the hopes of catching the interest of undecided and potentially soon-to-graduate high school students.
Admissions/Public Relations Specialist Jill Puthoff was one of the main faculty members to organize the event. Current enrollment is approximately 1,000 students, the majority of whom are from the area, Puthoff said.
“If we get any (out-of-state students) they’re usually from Indiana,” she said.
Eileen Wright, 81, of 509 W. South St., New Knoxville, died at 2:18 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at her residence. Funeral arrangements are being completed with the Vornholt-Miller Funeral Home in New Knoxville.
Billy E. Bush, 87, of rural New Knoxville, died at 1:12 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born on June 22, 1925, in Lima, the son of Everett and Charlotte (Rosell) Bush, and they preceded him in death.
On Dec. 22, 1944, he married Rose Mary Siegel, and she preceded him in death on March 19, 2004.
He is survived by three children, Richard (Chris) Bush of Lima, Thomas Bush of Stacy, Minn., and Susan (James) Manbeck of New Bremen; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
ST. MARYS — Friends and family are coming together in December to help a local resident in need.
A “Fun Night” will be held at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 at the St. Marys VFW to help Dave “Stubby” Whetstone cover his medical expenses. Whetstone in currently battling cancer.
ST. MARYS — Members of the St. Marys Board of Education met Wednesday and unanimously voted for the preparation and submission of a bid package that will ultimately determine which company will complete the masonry work on the outside brick facade of the high school and middle school building.
The ads for these bids will be placed on or around Nov. 19 and bids will be received at 1 p.m. Dec. 17 at the District Service Center.
Jean M. Lowman, 88, formerly of 621 Augustus St., St. Marys, a resident of Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community, died at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at Otterbein St. Marys.
She was born on March 30, 1924, in St. Marys, the daughter of Ralph and Amelia (Kammer) Ferris, and they preceded her in death.
On May 4, 1946, she married William J. Hail, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 1964. On Nov. 26, 1974, she married Maurice Lowman, and he preceded her in death on May 7, 1987.
Richard P. Crouse, 88, of 930 Hager St., St. Marys, died at 10:32 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in St. Marys.
He was born on Nov. 26, 1923, in Dayton, the son of Albert and Olivia (Balyeat) Crouse, and they preceded him in death.
On July 18, 1943, he married Marian Abbott, and she survives at the residence.
