Faber Cruises To Senate Victory

ST. MARYS — A Celina Republican cruised to re-election and will retain his seat in the Ohio Senate.

Incumbent Keith Faber defeated Libertarian Paul D. Hinds, of Lima, for the 12th District Ohio Senate seat on Election Night. In unofficial results in Auglaize County, Faber earned 83.86 percent of the vote (9,543 votes) to Hinds’ 16.14 percent (1,837 votes). Districtwide, Faber earned 79 percent of the vote (109,885 votes) to Hinds’ 21 percent (29,079 votes).

Youth Helps At Booth

ST. MARYS — As veteran poll workers helped guide voters to their precincts, a handful of Memorial High School students took the chance to learn first-hand what goes into running an election.

Seniors were excused from class as part of the Youth at the Booth program, which allows students to serve as poll workers to learn about the electoral process. In all, six Roughriders were stationed at polling locations throughout the county.

Celina Man Faces Charges

CELINA — A Celina man faces child endangering charges.

In a news release, Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey announced his office has filed charges of four counts of child endangering against Michael Jason Buschur, 38, of 6273 State Route 219, Celina.

Teacher Arrested On Sex Charge

CELINA — A Fort Recovery High School teacher was arrested on a sex charge.

In a news release, Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey announced the arrest of Christopher A. Summers, 32, 671 Woodlawn Ave., St. Henry, who was charged with sexual battery, a felony of the third degree. Summers is an accounting teacher and former girls junior varsity basketball coach.

5:10 p.m. — Multiple national media outlets are reporting voters in New Jersey will be given an extension to submit e-mail ballots until Friday because of the widespread damage from Superstorm Sandy.

7:10 p.m. — CNN is reporting Mitt Romney has won Kentucky, Barack Obama has won Vermont.

7:30 p.m. — Polls have closed in Ohio, North Carolina and West Virginia.

Magician Coming To New Bremen

NEW BREMEN — After winning NBC’s “Phenomenon,” some area residents may be familiar with Mike Super, the first magician to win a live magic competition on primetime network television.

The magician, who has been named Entertainer of the Year and Best Performing Artist of the Year, has also performed for Ellen DeGeneres, Jay Leno and Regis Philbin, among others, and will now travel to New Bremen for a local show.

Intersection Changing

ST. MARYS —  Motorists along South Street in the city of St. Marys will soon have one less traffic signal to content with in the coming weeks.

City engineers are in the first stages of removing the traffic signal at the intersection of South and Front streets in St. Marys. Starting on Wednesday, the signal will go into flash mode — the signal will flash to traffic on South Street and will be a red light to traffic on Front Street.
