Wapak Super Receives Harassing Letter

WAPAKONETA — Deputies with the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a harassing letter placed in the home mailbox of the Wapakoneta City Schools superintendent.

“It appears that the correspondence may be related to current contract negotiations in the district,” Sheriff Al Solomon said on Friday about the letter found last weekend in the mailbox at Keith Horner’s Cridersville area residence.

Students Get DNA Lessons

ST. MARYS — Local students participated in their first “in-school field trip,” where they learned how to find their own DNA code, during a science class on Friday.

The students in Tami Golliday’s cell biology and genetics course at St. Marys Memorial High School stayed in Golliday’s classroom all day Friday to participate in an extensive, first-time lab where they extracted DNA and found the DNA code, similar to what is done in forensics.

Former Director Hit With Charge

WAPAKONETA — The resignation by the director of the county agency came the same day he faced a criminal charge in Allen County.

Auglaize County American Red Cross Director Adam Suchland submitted a letter of resignation on Oct. 25, the same day he was arrested for soliciting a prostitute in Lima.

Couple Works To Help Orphans

A local couple hopes their appearance on a national morning show will help shed light on the adoption need of earthquake-ravaged Haiti.

In October, the Rev. John Kraner, his wife Julie and seven other members of Wayne Street United Methodist Church traveled to Haiti as part of a mission trip to HIS (Haitian Interdenominational Shelter) Home For Children. Kraner said the orphanage, based in Port-Au-Prince, has seen a boom in children since the massive earthquake rocked the Caribbean island two years ago.

Joyce Ann Aufderhaar, 56

Joyce Ann Aufderhaar, 56, a resident of the Gardens of Celina, formerly of 320 W. Market St., St. Marys, died at 5:59 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2012, at the Gardens of Celina.

She was born on Nov. 16, 1955, in Lima, the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Henkener) Aufderhaar, and her father preceded her in death. Her mother survives her at the Gardens of Celina.

Norma L. Fronk Miller, 86

January 6, 2012

Norma L. Fronk Miller, 86, of Spencerville, died at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

She was born on March 6, 1925, to Frank and Minnie Stirn Fronk, and they preceded her in death.

She is survived by her three sons, Randy (Linda) Miller, Lindsay (Misty Hadding) Miller and Kim (Traci Suarez) Miller; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters; a brother; two sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother; two sisters; eight brothers and sisters-in-law.
