CELINA — A newly formed Flotilla hosted an open house Wednesday night to inform area residents about how they could get involved and to discuss the group’s mission.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary District 8 Eastern Region, Division 6, Flotilla 12 held its chartering ceremony last week and is now working to inform the community about opportunities the Coast Guard Auxiliary offers. Flotilla Commander Larry Baker said Coast Guard Auxiliary members are all volunteers.
ST. MARYS — Local students received a lesson in safety as part of an official’s visit to their school on Wednesday.
“Magic Tom” Rozoff and St. Marys Ptl. Kevin Draiss presented the Officer Phil and PALS program at St. Marys Intermediate School on Wednesday.
“The Officer Phil program is sponsored by the St. Marys Police Department and is paid for by local businesses,” Rozoff told The Evening Leader. “Each student will get a safety booklet, and it mentions the local businesses.”
Wilbur Warner, 90, of St. Marys, died on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys. Arrangements are being completed with the Miller Funeral Homes in St. Marys.
William H. D’Addurno, 61, of 615 N. Vine St., St. Marys, died at 9:06 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, in the emergency department of Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born on April 2, 1950, in Trenton, N.J., to William and Elsie (Blom) D’Addurno, and they preceded him in death.
On Sept. 18, 1998, in Fort Wayne, Ind., he married Norma Jean Hall, and she survives.
He is also survived by a daughter, Jessica D’Addurno of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Betty A. Bowersock, 84, of 1321 Celina Road, St. Marys, died on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at her residence.
She was born on Jan. 17, 1928, in St. Marys, to Ralph and Mary (Ruperd) McElroy, and they preceded her in death.
On Jan. 21, 1949, in Celina, she married Norman R. Bowersock, and he preceded her in death on March 23, 2007.
