ST. MARYS — Kindles, Nooks and tablets topped the wish list of many area residents this holiday season, and a local library is offering a slew of items for these devices at no cost to library patrons.
The St. Marys Community Public Library offers a variety of e-books, audiobooks and movies that may be checked out for use on a variety of devices, including Kindles, Nooks and Sony Readers. E-books may also be checked out for use on a Windows or Mac computer. A complete list of supported devices can be found on the library’s digital catalog website.
NEW BREMEN — Area residents in wheelchairs, bicyclists or those who need scooters to get around will soon be able to get out and explore a resource in the area.
As part of a Transportation Enhancement grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation received through a partnership with the village of New Bremen and the New Bremen Foundation, a portion of the Miami and Erie Canal Towpath Trail will be paved.
This is the inaugural edition of “Leader Look Back,” a collection of stories and headlines from 75, 50, 25 years ago this week. This week’s edition examines stories from Jan. 9 to 16, 1937, 1962 and 1987.
Cleona C. Wyen, 90, formerly of Seventh Street, Minster, died at 4:05 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at Briarwood Manor in Coldwater; she had been a patient there for two years.
She was born on March 3, 1921, in St. Patrick, to Joseph and Henrietta (Alternatt) Meyer. On June 3, 1941, she married Victor A. Wyen; he died on May 26, 1974.
NEW BREMEN — A big third quarter was just what the New Knoxville Lady Rangers basketball team needed Thursday night. The Rangers hit 7 of 10 shots from the field and went on to defeat the New Bremen Cardinals 45-25 in a MAC contest at New Bremen.
ROCKFORD — The Minster girls basketball team won its seventh straight game, pummeling Parkway 64-22 in a Midwest Athletic Conference contest on Thursday night.
Minster also held an opponent under 30 points for the fifth straight game.
“Of course you always have things that you need to work on, but overall, I thought we got it inside and got high-percentage shots,” said Minster head coach Nann Stechschulte. “I just didn’t want to come out flat and I don’t think they did.”
CELINA — Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey announced today his office is investigating an incident that occurred on Brown Road, Celina.
At 7:29 a.m. this morning, deputies were notified Danny L. Boise, 61 of 911 North 7th Street, Apt. #15 Coldwater, had not made it to his dialysis appointment in Celina. Deputies and Coldwater Police began to search for him.
At 7:52 a.m., deputies were dispatched to 5139 Brown Road, when the residents there discovered a vehicle in their pond with a body lying near a garage there.
Correction: Thursday's Evening Leader incorrectly stated where tonight's St. Marys at Bath boys basketball game will be played. The game will be contested at Bath High School tonight, with a 6 p.m. JV tip-off.
