MINSTER — Members of the Minster Fire and Rescue squad responded to Minster Machine this morning for an accident which resulted in the death of an employee.
Minster Fire Chief Dale Dues told The Evening Leader crews received a phone call shortly after 5 a.m. today reporting a male at Minster Machine was trapped under a plate of steel. By the time emergency responders arrived, Dues said employees at the foundry freed the male. The male was brought to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys via a Minster squad.
Carl Richard Wappelhorst, 90, of Coldwater, died on Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at Briarwood Village in Coldwater.
He was born on June 8, 1921, in St. Henry, to Joseph and Emma (Daniel) Wapplehorst, and they preceded him in death.
Rosemary Knapke, 89, of Celina, died at 9:15 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
She was born on Jan. 4, 1923, in Indiana, to Oscar F. and Marie C. (Baker) Schaadt, and they preceded her in death.
On Aug. 23, 1941, she married Ivo H. Knapke, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 16, 1976.
She is survived by a daughter, Maryanne Knapke of Celina; a sister.
She was preceded in death by four sisters.
Patricia L. Bradford, 80, of West Chester, Formerly of 1469 James Drive, Celina, died at 12:13 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at Chesterwood Village in West Chester.
She was born on Sept. 10, 1931, in Celina, to Basil and Jessie (Merinar) Granger, and they preceded her in death.
On Feb. 24, 1951, she married Arthur J. Bradford, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 26, 2008.
She is survived by two sons, Kevin R. Bradford of Cottonwood, Ariz., and Kim D. (Jill) Bradford of West Chester; two grandsons; a brother; two sisters.
Jean Ackley, 78, of 225 N. Chestnut St., St. Marys, a resident of the Gardens of Celina, died at 5:10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at the Gardens of Celina.
She was born on Aug. 21, 1933, in St. Marys, the daughter of Harry and Elizabeth (Moeller) Boltz, and they preceded her in death.
She married Cloyd Ackley, and he preceded her in death on March 10, 1967.
ST. MARYS — City officials say they plan to take a closer look at the city’s water fund.
St. Marys Mayor Pat McGowan noted the health of the city’s water fund needs to be examined in the coming weeks. During Monday night’s council meeting, councilors approved, under suspension of rules, an emergency ordinance to make appropriations for 2012. In that measure was a revision that removed a $200,000 appropriation from the water distribution improvement fund.
ST. MARYS — A New York woman faces three felony charges after allegedly attempting to defraud a local Chase Bank.
