ST. MARYS — With local highways expected to be busy with holiday traffic, a local state trooper stressed safety as motorists hit the road.
“The biggest thing this time of year is weather related,” said Sgt. Brian Jordan of the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol. “I know we are supposed to get some snow this week.”
While driving in inclement weather, Jordan cautioned against tailgating.
“The biggest thing we see is assured cleared distance,” Jordan said.
Harold “Shep” Simon, 86, of Russia, died at 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, surrounded by his loving wife and eight children.
He was born on July 8, 1925, in Russia, to Alfred L. and Christine (Monnier) Simon, and they preceded him in death.
On Nov. 20, 1948, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Fort Loramie, he married Martha Bollheimer, and she survives him in Russia.
Kay Guyer, 57, of St. Marys, died on Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at St. Marys Living Center.
Arrangements are being completed with the Miller Funeral Homes in St. Marys.
Lola Brautigam, 83, of Wapakoneta, died at 4:50 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
Arrangements are incomplete at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta.
Sue Gasson, 62, of 909 Motz St., St. Marys, died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
She was born on Nov. 26, 1949, the daughter of Leota (Keiber) Brincefield, and her mother preceded her in death.
On June 17, 1967, she married Paul Gasson, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 7, 2011.

Esther Seger, 90, of 10 Louie St., Fort Loramie, died on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011, at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Sidney.
She was born on Oct. 11, 1921, in Fort Loramie, to Joseph and Cecilia (Wuebker) Seger, and they preceded her in death.
She is survived by 58 nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law.
She was preceded in death by 10 siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steven Shoup officiating. Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery in Fort Loramie.
Verlin W. Hirschfeld, 93, of New Bremen, died at 10:20 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011, at the Convalarium at Indian Run in Dublin.
He was born on Jan. 6, 1918, on a small farm west of New Bremen that was shared by his parents, Edward G. and Emma A. (Oberwitte) Hirschfeld and his grandparents, and they preceded him in death.
On July 5, 1942, he married Enola Luedeke, and she survives in Dublin.
