Kathryn G. “Kathy” Welker, 58

September 8, 2011

Kathryn G. “Kathy” Welker, 58, of Wapakoneta, died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, surrounded by her family.  

She was born on March 23, 1953, in Lima, to William “Bill” and Emmagene (Keller) Cool. Her mother survives in Wapakoneta, and her father preceded her in death.  

On March 19, 1983, she married Thomas C. Welker Sr., and he survives her.

Myrtle Lietz, 92, of St. Marys, died on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at St. Marys Living Center.
Arrangements are being completed with the Miller – Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 W. High St., St. Marys.

Buddy Dials, 70, of St. Marys, died on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at his residence.

NB BOE To Host Tour

NEW BREMEN — New Bremen Board of Education members urged residents to attend the tour next week in an effort to obtain input on what steps to take with the elementary building.

The board viewed pictures of damaged plumbing and electrical lines that were recently taken in the tunnels of the elementary building in addition to reviewing a script of the tour they took before the August board meeting. Board members agreed the condition of the building cannot be allowed to continue to deteriorate.

Cell Phone Policy Revamped

ST. MARYS — Local high school students entered this school year with a new policy change that allows them to use their cell phones during the school day.

St. Marys Memorial High School students are allowed to keep their cell phones on during the day — during certain times of the day — which was a change in the school’s previous policy on cell phones and other wireless communication devices.

CSX Engineer Killed In Accident

September 8, 2011

WAPAKONETA — A CSX railroad engineer was killed this morning in an accident on the CSX railroad tracks near Taylor Road close to the Auglaize-Shelby County border just off of County Road 25A.

Investigators at the scene were still evaluating evidence as of press time this morning, but he said it appears the engineer of the train was pinned between the engine and a railroad car during a switching operation.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
