CELINA — For the second time in three days a traffic stop has led to the seizure of a significant amount of heroin.
On Sunday, Celina Police Officer Brian Taylor recognized Zachery Frazier as the subject drove north on Main Street. The officer was aware that Frazier was under suspension from the state of Ohio. He confirmed this information through a computer check and stopped the vehicle at a residence in the 100 block of East Wayne Street at 2:33 p.m. Sunday
CELINA — An area official updated members of a local lake organization on a project that is scheduled to start this fall.
Mercer County Economic Development Director Jared Ebbing addressed members of the Lake Improvement Association during their monthly meeting Saturday morning.
He noted the Prairie Creek treatment train would be a system to return the “ecological balance” to that section of Grand Lake St. Marys.
ST. MARYS — A group of Auglaize County athletes recently celebrated their achievements from when they competed in a statewide competition earlier this season.
Auglaize County Special Olympics athletes were recognized by their peers for the achievements they netted during the 42nd annual Special Olympics Ohio State Summer Games held in Columbus in late June during a recent banquet in St. Marys.
“We took approximately 52 athletes this year,” Special Olympics Chair Dave Axe said.
Cole L. Hiestand, 10, of rural Wapakoneta, died at 12:40 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, following a courageous 15-month battle with aplasticanemia.
He was born on Sept. 9, 2000, in Lima, the son of Jonathan and Carrie (Bowman) Hiestand, and they survive him in Wapakoneta.
Martha Jane Hanna, 86, of 1131 Fairground Road, Celina, died at 8:25 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, at the Celina Manor Nursing Home.
She was born on Feb. 24, 1925, in Ashland, to Dewey and Martha (Immel) Brown, and they preceded her in death.
On Jan. 27, 1950, she married Vernis Glen Hanna, and he survives her in Celina.
She is also survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Ruth Hanna, Paul and Phyllis Hanna, Dave and Deb Hanna and Mark and Patricia Hanna, all of Celina; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters.
Dorothy W. Otting, 89, of 75 S. Jefferson St., Minster, died on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at Briarwood Nursing Center in Coldwater.
She was born on Dec. 8, 1921, in New Bremen, to Raymond and Marie (Topp) Mohrman, and they preceded her in death.
On May 25, 1946, in McCartyville, she married Elmer J. Otting, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 8, 2000.
Iris Ann Burwell, 102, formerly of Wapakoneta, and a long time resident of the St. Marys Living Center, died on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, at the St. Marys Living Center.
She was born on Feb. 2, 1909, in Lima, the daughter of Daniel and Lillian (Burton) Armentrout, and they preceded her in death.
On May 2, 1927, she married Guy Burwell, and he preceded her in death in October 1993.
