Speaker Sets Examples For Students

ST. MARYS — Ron Rose wasn’t born blind — a medical practice in the 1950s made him that way — but if there’s one thing he wishes he could do if he could see again, it’s drive a car.

Rose told the third-grade students in Joni Ahlers’ class at St. Marys Intermediate School he has driven a car once — but it almost got him in trouble — but if one day he woke up and wasn’t blind anymore, driving would be what he would want to do first.

District Looks To Save Tops

Group Eyes Downtown

ST. MARYS — A  fledgling group is hoping to bring some awareness to downtown St. Marys.

The recently formed St. Marys Community Partnership is made up of businesses and individuals with the goal of helping bring awareness to the downtown district. Group member Jeremy Holtzapple, whose wife Brenda operates Williams Tax Service, said the group had its first official meeting in August and held an event in July.

Anna H. Milstead, 91

Anna H. Milstead, 91, formerly of 29 E. Lake Drive, Wapakoneta, died at 6:40 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at the Auglaize Acres in Wapakoneta.  

She was born on March 8, 1920, near Botkins, the daughter of Frederick and Henrietta (Roettger) Egbert, and they preceded her in death.

On Nov. 23, 1944, she married Mathias “Cy” Milstead, and he preceded her in death on July 16, 2000.  

She is survived by a brother and a sister-in-law; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by six brothers; four sisters.

Eleanor M. Smith, 91

Eleanor M. Smith, 91, of Defiance, died on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center in Defiance.

She was born on March 1, 1920, in Williams County, to Vern and Cora (Shull) Page, and they preceded her in death.

On Feb. 26, 1939, she married William Lane Smith, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 1999.

New Wedding Business Opens

NEW KNOXVILLE — A new area business recently opened to aide brides and grooms in planning their dream wedding.

St. Marys native Anita Roediger opened One Stop Bridal and Event Planning and Photography by Anita in New Knoxville in the Winner’s Computers building. For her event planning business, Roediger said she coordinates with local businesses to provide a dream wedding to engaged couples on a budget.
