ST. MARYS — State officials in Columbus are in the process of determining if the illness of a Montgomery County resident is related to toxins in Grand Lake St. Marys.
CELINA — Minster’s hopes for an ACME state title found a roadblock in the personage of Vandalia Butler catcher Lance Straley.
Minster had the tying run thrown out at the plate and bowed out of the state ACME tournament with a 3-2 loss to Vandalia Butler on Friday night.
Minster (17-8) appeared to be on the verge of evening the score and seizing the momentum in the loser’s bracket game when Ethan Wolf lined a single into centerfield with runners on first and second with two outs in the top of the sixth.
Landen Thomas Phlipot, 3 months, of 25 S. Main St., New Bremen, died on Saturday morning, July 30, 2011, at his residence of natural causes.
He is the son of Joey and Jessica (Pohlman) Phlipot, and they survive him.
He is also survived by a sister, Hailee; his grandparents, Ted and Diane Pohlman of Yorkshire, Tina Philpot of Piqua and Andy and Brianna Phlipot of Minster; his great-grandparents, Clete and Rose Dirksen of Darke County, Gene and Mary Lou Phlipot of Minster and John and Sandy Eilerman of Minster; his godparents, Brittney Homan and Otto Schwieterman.
Jack J. Emrick, 45, of Wapakoneta, died at 1:25 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2011, at Lima Memorial Health System, Emergency Room, from injuries suffered in an accident at his home site near Wapakoneta.
He was born on Feb. 7, 1966, in Lima, the son of James Walker and Ruth (Thuman) Emrick. His mother survives in Wapakoneta, and his father died on April 19.
ST. MARYS — Outdoor enthusiasts and history buffs have the opportunity to stroll through the woods near the location of what is believed to be the initial settlement of St. Marys.
As part of his Eagle Scout project, Ryan Wendel, 18, established a walking path through the woods behind Varsity Lanes in St. Marys. The parcel is believed to be near the original settlement of Fort St. Marys, which became part of St. Marys.
