Galen Cisco Award winner Derek Jay received his award from former St. Marys, Ohio State and Major League pitcher Galen Cisco. The award is handed out to the St. Marys Little League player who is the best player in the league and who displays sportsmanship as voted on by his peers.
Jay had 32 hits in 42 at-bats for a .762 avearge along with eight home runs this season. On the mound he went 4-1 with 60 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched.
ST. HENRY — Minster wanted to do more than just give itself a puncher’s chance at a district ACME title. By knocking Wapakoneta out of the tournament in one game instead of two, the Wildcats will be rested and ready when they square off with Coldwater on Thursday.
Minster’s sudden three-run fifth inning proved to be the difference in a 3-2 win over Wapakoneta in an ACME district semifinal game at St. Henry on Tuesday night.
Alan F. Kah, 84, of Wapakoneta, died at 3:53 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima. Arrangements are incomplete at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Wapakoneta.
Murle E. Green, 86, of Celina, died at 5:58 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at the Celina Manor Nursing Home.
He was born on May 13, 1925, in Mercer County, to Cassius Ford and Gertrude (Moore) Green, and they preceded him in death.
On Sept. 25, 1946, he married Berniece Braun, and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2009.
ST. MARYS — After a local school committee met Tuesday afternoon to discuss outsourcing its second and third-shift custodians, board members will be seeing the recommendation to refuse the bids and to look at the realignment of one of the district’s departments at their meeting tonight.
ST. MARYS — Members of a local service club Tuesday night received an update about a variety of county news from one of its top elected officials.
Auglaize County Commissioner Doug Spencer gave an update on the county during a visit to the St. Marys Kiwanis Club’s weekly meeting. Spencer touched upon topics ranging from income tax collection receipts to the massive renovation project at the courthouse.

ST. MARYS — As part of its effort to support the international community, the St. Marys Rotary Club will be holding a clothing drive to benefit those less fortunate.
The drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 30 and the club will collect baby blankets, sleepers, diapers, diaper rash ointments and clothing for children and adults for Medical Equipment and Supplies Abroad (MESA). Rotary President Linda Vogel touted the drive as having a dual purpose.
NEW BREMEN — A local village will be looking into expanding its zoning options after holding a public meeting Monday night.
After being approached by two groups — who were turned down — to change the village’s zoning policies in the Washington Street area, the village held a public meeting to hear residents’ thoughts on expanding the zoning area. The village currently has a C-1 commercial area on Washington Street from Monroe Street south to Plum Street, and officials were wanting to look into expanding further south on Washington Street.
